Coriander Market: Stockholder Selling Meets Firm Export FOB Values

Concise coriander market update: domestic selling pressure vs. firm FOB export values, tightening stocks and rabi sowing dynamics, plus short-term trading outlook.

Coriander prices are under near-term pressure from stockholder selling, even as export FOB quotations out of India remain mildly firmer and structurally supported by tight inventories and low farmer stocks. The immediate bias is slightly mixed: soft spot and futures tone versus still-elevated levels compared with last year and constrained supply heading into the rabi sowing window. In India’s spice complex, coriander currently underperforms firmer niches such as isabgol husk, highlighting how demand is rotating within spices and medicinal crops. Domestic reports indicate coriander values dropped by roughly US$1.06 per quintal as stockists liquidated positions, while buyers in isabgol continued to support that market. At the same time, Indian FOB coriander offers from New Delhi have edged up only modestly in recent weeks on tight physical availability and firm mandi prices, suggesting an orderly consolidation rather than a deep correction.

Prices

Despite the described decline of about US$1.06 per quintal from stockholder selling, benchmark export offers show that coriander is still trading at comparatively firm levels. Indian FOB quotations from New Delhi, updated through 24 October 2026, indicate a shallow, steady uptrend across main grades rather than a sharp break lower.

Indian mandi data confirm that wholesale physical prices remain historically elevated, with late-October median levels near the high teens in INR/kg across key markets, even after modest week-on-week softening.    On the futures side, coriander contracts on NCDEX have recently eased from early-October highs as participants trimmed positions amid softer spot demand.

Supply & Demand

The reported fall in coriander prices by roughly US$1.06 per quintal is mainly attributed to selling by stockholders, not to any sudden improvement in supply. Earlier in the season, the Indian crop faced a 20–25% drop in acreage, weaker yields and low carry-in, which sharply reduced farmer-held stocks and left inventories structurally tight.

Market arrivals in India are now substantially lower year on year, and farmer-held coriander stocks are estimated below 10% versus roughly 35% a year earlier.    Previous import flows from Russia have also become less reliable, with trade sources highlighting stalled shipments and reduced import volumes, which adds to the upside risk once current domestic liquidation abates.

On the demand side, high prices earlier in 2026 curtailed both export and local offtake, leading to a contraction in export volumes even as export earnings rose on higher realization values.    More recently, mandi series show that despite some pullback, coriander remains nearly 80% above year-ago spot levels in late October, pointing to underlying demand resilience at these elevated prices.

Fundamentals & Weather

Fundamentals remain tighter than the short-term price softness might suggest. The combination of reduced 2026 acreage, lower yields and diminished carry-forward stocks means the market is heading into the new rabi sowing campaign with limited buffers.    New-crop sowing for coriander in India begins in October–November, and current dry conditions in some rabi-growing belts support firm early mandi and FOB values.

In the broader spice basket, the contrast to isabgol is notable. While isabgol husk prices are described as holding firm on ongoing buying interest, coriander is experiencing near-term downside from stockist selling and selective demand, underlining how buyers are differentiating between commodities based on specific end-use demand and perceived tightness.

Weather-wise, no major, immediate threat has been flagged for the upcoming coriander sowing, but localized moisture deficits and competition for acreage with other rabi crops could cap any rapid recovery in supply. In this context, any adverse weather shift during sowing or early vegetative stages would quickly translate into renewed price strength, given already low stock levels.

Short-Term Outlook & Trading Ideas

  • Bias: Short-term mixed to mildly firm. Stockholder selling has created a modest downtick (around US$1.06/quintal), but FOB series in EUR still trend slightly higher, and structural tightness limits downside.
  • Importers / industrial buyers: Consider staggered coverage through Q1 2027, using current soft spots on futures and spot weakness to extend coverage, especially for higher grades and organic material which show limited discounting.
  • Stockists / traders: Avoid aggressive long liquidation at current levels; with farmer stocks already depleted and rabi sowing risks ahead, the risk-reward starts to tilt back toward moderated re-stocking on further dips.
  • End users (food manufacturers, blenders): Maintain at least normal cover, as any weather or acreage surprise during the October–November sowing window could trigger a quick rebound in mandi and FOB prices from currently softer levels.

3-Day Price Indication

  • India FOB New Delhi: Coriander seed export quotations for key grades (eagle/split, single and double parrot) are expected to remain broadly steady with a slight firm bias, holding close to current ranges between 1.52 and 1.76 EUR FOB as selling pressure slows and rabi sowing-related demand emerges.
  • India domestic mandis: Spot coriander is likely to consolidate after recent softness, with moderate volatility but no clear signal yet of a deeper correction, given still-tight physical availability.
  • Egypt FOB Kairo: Coriander seed offers around 1.10 EUR FOB appear stable in the very short term, with limited immediate catalyst for large moves relative to Indian origin.
