Concise update on Indian organic arrowroot powder FOB New Delhi: flat prices, modest monsoon risk, and a 3-day EUR price outlook for New Delhi.

Indian organic arrowroot powder FOB New Delhi is trading sideways around EUR 1.90–2.00/kg equivalent, with no week‑on‑week change and only a mild softening versus late June. Market sentiment is cautiously stable as buyers see comfortable spot availability and limited fresh export demand. The arrowroot complex in India is currently driven more by general monsoon and agro‑inputs sentiment than by commodity‑specific shocks. Below‑normal all‑India rainfall and a recently improving but still uneven monsoon pattern are in focus, but tuber crops are less immediately stressed than short‑cycle kharif grains. For now, processors report adequate raw root inflows and no major logistical disruptions around New Delhi. Buyers remain price‑sensitive and inclined to negotiate small lots rather than commit to forward cover.

Prices

Indicative export prices for organic arrowroot powder (99% purity, FOB New Delhi) are assessed around EUR 1.90–2.00/kg, broadly in line with last week. The flat curve mirrors a broader stability in Delhi wholesale prices for many niche staples, with no fresh inflationary impulse from food distribution channels reported in mid‑July.

Over the past month, values have eased marginally from roughly EUR 2.05–2.10/kg as prior tightness in specialty starches faded and freight markets stabilised. The lack of new tenders from key Middle East and North American buyers is limiting upside, while small processors continue to offer competitively to keep plants running at good utilisation rates.

Supply & Demand

India remains a niche but consistent exporter of arrowroot and other tropical tuber products, with demand concentrated in markets such as the UAE, Canada, the US and the UK. These destinations account for a substantial share of India’s arrowroot export basket under HS 071490 categories.

On the supply side, there are no current reports of serious disruptions in tuber‑growing belts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, though the broader monsoon deficit has raised caution across agricultural value chains. Agro‑credit and fertiliser availability appear normal, but buyers are closely watching whether the late July rainfall improvement translates into better planting and vegetative growth conditions.

Weather & Crop Conditions

The 2026 southwest monsoon started with a significant June rainfall deficit (around 60% of the long‑period average), increasing downside risks to kharif output.   In July, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected below‑normal all‑India rainfall, although parts of the eastern peninsula and some central and northwest regions could see normal to above‑normal precipitation.

Recent updates indicate that monsoon conditions have been improving but remain uneven. Commentators tracking IMD data note that the all‑India deficit has narrowed to around -16%, with Kerala and the Kaveri basin (important for tuber crops) still relatively dry compared with the Krishna basin and parts of central India.   For the next few days, IMD press releases highlight active to vigorous monsoon conditions mainly over northwest, central and eastern India rather than the far south.

For arrowroot, which is more resilient to short dry spells than shallow‑rooted crops, the current pattern implies only a modest near‑term yield risk. However, if below‑normal rainfall persists into August in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, root development could be affected, tightening supply later in the season.

Fundamentals & Trade Flows

With no major new policy measures, export restrictions or logistics bottlenecks reported in the last few days for arrowroot or close substitutes, the fundamental balance looks near neutral. Broader concerns about India’s agrigrowth due to the early monsoon deficit have so far focused on cereals and oilseeds, while tuber crops have received less immediate scrutiny.

Downstream demand from gluten‑free food producers and specialty starch blenders remains steady but not exuberant, amid cautious consumer spending in key import markets. Some buyers are reportedly spacing out orders and preferring spot or short‑term commitments, which helps cap prices but also discourages aggressive selling by Indian exporters, who are watching currency and freight developments.

Trading Outlook (Next 1–3 Weeks)

  • Bias: Sideways to mildly firm. Stable FOB New Delhi indications and modest monsoon‑related supply risk suggest a narrow trading band for now.
  • For buyers: Consider securing near‑term requirements at current levels with limited optionality for Q4, as downside looks constrained unless monsoon improves sharply in key tuber belts.
  • For sellers: Maintain offer discipline near the upper end of the recent range; avoid heavy forward selling until more clarity emerges on August rainfall and export demand from the Middle East.

3‑Day Indicative Price & Direction (Region: IN)

For the next three days (27–29 July 2026), no major weather or policy shocks are expected around New Delhi or the main tuber‑growing states, and freight conditions remain broadly stable.
