Production is estimated to be more than 1.5 million tonnes due to an increase in the sowing of summer sesame by 30 to 35% in the Indian market. The price of white sesame is continuously decreasing due to the onset of the summer season, so the demand for white sesame has reduced on a large scale.
According to the government’s latest figures, white sesame has been sown in 47000 hectares in Gujarat, which was done in 35000 hectares at this time last year. Due to the favorable environment, the crop of white sesame is expected to grow from 1.5 million tonnes in the summer season, around 1.20 to 1.25 million tonnes last year. In the current year, due to the trend of sowing white sesame instead of black sesame, the summer crop in Gujarat is expected to be 1.30 to 1.35 million tonnes.
New crop in the middle of May
The arrival of new summer sesame will start in the middle of May, and the pressure of the recent arrival of white sesame will increase at the end of May. There is little business in the international market due to the end of sesame crops in countries like Sudan, Nigeria, Brazil, etc.
At present, there is no demand for the higher price. The new crop from Tanzania and Mozambique will arrive in May-June, and the new crop from Brazil in July, after which the shipment to these countries will start. There is currently no export trade due to the high price of Indian Sesame in the international market.
Thus, the market experts opine that the arrival of new summer sesame will start sporadically from May 15, whose pressure will come after May 31.
