Tight Turmeric Supplies Keep Prices Firm as Stocks Stay Locked In
Turmeric prices firm as new arrivals slow and traders hold stocks. See key price levels, supply-demand drivers, weather and short-term outlook for late Oct 2026.
Prices
Turmeric prices continued to receive support as tight spot availability coincides with ongoing demand from processors and export buyers. New arrivals have declined following the completion of much of the seasonal marketing, reducing selling pressure at origin.
Our latest FOB quotes from India show a modest but broad-based week-on-week increase as of 24 October 2026. Turmeric whole (organic, New Delhi FOB) is indicated at 2.39 EUR, turmeric powder (organic, New Delhi FOB) at 3.24 EUR, while turmeric dried finger salem double polished grade A (Telangana FOB) stands at 1.85 EUR and turmeric dried finger nizamabad double polished grade A (Telangana FOB) at 1.70 EUR. All four lines have edged higher from their 17 October levels, confirming a gently rising price trend.

Supply & Demand
Physical supplies from key Indian growing belts have tightened as the main season’s marketing is largely over and fresh arrivals into mandis are declining. This reduction in spot availability aligns with recent data showing thin reported arrivals at Indian wholesale markets in late October.
At the same time, traders and major stockholders are deliberately retaining inventories in anticipation of higher prices, effectively removing additional volumes from the near-term supply pool. On the demand side, buying from processors and consuming centres remains active, and domestic futures trading on NCDEX continues to show healthy interest with December 2026 and forward contracts trading at firm levels in the mid‑26,000 INR/quintal range.

Fundamentals & Weather
Fundamentally, the market is underpinned by a combination of low carry-forward stocks and tighter nearby availability. Earlier in the year, the 2026 crop was reported as satisfactory, but much of the marketing is now complete and remaining volumes are concentrated in stronger hands. This pattern leaves end-users more exposed to any incremental demand spikes.
Weather in major turmeric regions such as Nizamabad in Telangana is currently warm with partly cloudy to generally cloudy conditions and only limited rainfall. The official 7‑day forecast for Nizamabad points to maximum temperatures around 33–34 °C, minima near 19–22 °C and only light to moderate showers on some days, suggesting no immediate weather threat to standing crops or to near-term logistics.
Short-Term Outlook & Trading Ideas
- Bias: Firm to moderately bullish in the short term, driven by restricted arrivals, active demand and stockholding behaviour.
- Origin sellers: Consider staggered sales rather than aggressive forward selling, as current fundamentals justify maintaining some price optimism while managing liquidity and storage risk.
- Importers and processors: Use current levels to secure nearby and medium‑term coverage, particularly for higher-grade dried fingers and organic powder, as further tightening in spot availability could lift offers.
- Futures participants: NCDEX turmeric contracts remain supported; dips linked to short-term long liquidation or broader commodity sentiment may offer buying opportunities, but positions should be sized conservatively given recent volatility.
3-Day Directional Outlook (Indicative)
- India FOB (whole & powder): Sideways to slightly firmer as buyers adjust to lower arrivals and held-back stocks.
- India FOB dried fingers (Telangana): Mild upward bias, particularly for premium grades, supported by tight physical supplies.
- NCDEX futures: Likely to trade with a firm undertone, tracking constrained spot availability and ongoing end-user demand.
