Barberry production is expected to be more than 22,000 tons in Iran this year. The number of exports has more than doubled in the last six months compared to the same period in 2020. Iranian barberry’s most important export destinations are Turkey, UAE, Iraq, Canada, and Russia in the last six months.

Last year, 435 tons of barberry were exported to 11 countries worth 320,000 USD. Also, 263 tons of barberry worth 297,000 USD were shipped in the mentioned months of this year (March 21st,2021 to September 22nd,2021) and before the barberry harvest season. Due to this amount of exports in the mentioned period of this year, this product is not left in storage. Last year, exports amounted to 116 tons worth 69,000 USD. The amount of exports in this period has increased by 127 per cent in terms of weight and by 330 per cent in terms of export value compared to the same period last year. The most important reason for the increase in exports and price of this product in global markets is the higher quality of barberry available during this year. The average price of each kilogram of exported barberry has increased by 88 per cent in the mentioned months of this year compared to the same period last year. The increase in foreign exchange rates in the Iranian market encouraged traders and farmers to export this product, which increased exports compared to the same period last year.

Iranian barberry’s most important export destinations from March 21st,2021 to September 22nd,2021 are Turkey, UAE, Iraq, Canada, and Russia. The number of Iranian barberry exports to Turkey was about 82 tons worth 74,000 USD during this period. Also, during this period, 58 tons worth 79,000 USD were exported to the United Arab Emirates, 22 tons worth 23,000 USD to Iraq, 20 tons worth 18,000 USD to Canada, and 17 tons worth 21,000 USD were exported to Russia.

The price of Iranian barberry has increased compared to last month. The cost of puffed barberry for export has risen by about 19 per cent compared to the previous month due to the decrease in the stock of this crop and the increase in demand for this product. Puffed barberry is about to enter the market in the next three months. Also, despite exporting a new product to the market, barberry’s price for export has increased by about 8.5 per cent compared to last month due to increased export and domestic demand.
