More than 90 percent of the export of Iranian cumin was allocated to the export of green cumin in the first six months of 2022. The export rate of all types of Iranian cumin has decreased by more than 73 percent during this period compared to the same period last year. Japan and the United Arab Emirates were the most important export destinations of Iranian cumin in the first six months of this year.

According to the Iran customs statistics, 317,851 kilograms of cumin worth 636,000 USD were exported from Iran in the first six months of this year (from January to June 2022). The average price of Iranian cumin for export was 2 USD per kilogram during this period. More than 90 percent of the export of Iranian cumin was allocated to the export of green cumin in the mentioned months.

The cumin inventory is low in the market in the first half of the year due to the cumin harvest season, which is during the months of June and July. This issue will decrease the export of all types of Iranian cumin during this period. However, the export of Iranian cumin reduced significantly in the first six months of this year compared to previous years due to the decline in production last year (caused by a severe drought). Cumin inventory was very low in recent months.

The export rate of cumin has dropped by more than 73 percent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year. 1,200,868 kilograms of cumin worth 2,377,000 USD (1.98 USD per kilogram) were exported from Iran in the first six months of 2021. In addition to the decrease in inventory, the lower quality of available cumin in the first six months of this year compared to last year led to a reduction in export demand and the export rate of all types of Iranian cumin during this period.

Japan was the most significant customer of Iranian cumin in the mentioned months this year. 194,400 kilograms of cumin worth 387,000 USD were exported to this country during this period, which is about 61 percent of exports. After Japan, the United Arab Emirates is the second destination with 92,200 kilograms worth 184,000 USD (29 percent of the total cumin exports in the first six months of 2022). After these countries, Iraq, Kuwait, and Canada are other main export destinations of Iranian cumin.

Compared to last month, the price of all types of Iranian cumin has fallen in the domestic market of Iran and the world markets due to the completion of the cumin harvest in Iran and entering the new crop in the market. The decrease in the Dollar rate of Iranian cumin in the world markets was more than the Euro rate of this product, considering that compared to last month, the Euro rate was stable in the Iranian market, and the Dollar price rose. Compared to the previous month, the Dollar rate of Iranian cumin for export has grown by 14 to 16 percent, and the Euro rate of this product has dropped by 8 to 10 percent.
