Iranian Almonds: An Overview on 6 Month Export

Kuwait and India are the biggest customers of Iranian shelled almonds and almond kernels in the first six months of 2022.

The export rate of Iranian almonds has decreased by 46 percent in terms of weight in the first six months of 2022 compared to the first six months of 2021. The main customers of Iranian shelled almonds have been Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq. Also, India, Iraq, Turkey, and Germany have been the most significant customers of Iranian almond kernels during this period.

According to the Iran customs statistics, 1,19 tons of almonds worth 7,312,000 USD were exported from Iran during the first six months of this year. The export rate of Iranian almonds has dropped significantly during this period compared to the same period last year (the first six months of 2021). 1,876 tons of almonds worth 16,482,000 USD were exported from Iran in the first six months of last year. The number of exports has fallen by 46 percent in terms of weight and by 56 percent in terms of export value in the first six months of this year compared to last year. The average price of Iranian almonds has decreased by 18.4 percent in the first six months of 2022 compared to the first six months of 2021. It has reached 7.17 USD per kg from 8.79 USD per kg.

Of the total export of Iranian almonds during the first six months of this year, 784 tons (77 percent) worth 6,854,000 USD (93.7 percent of the total export value of Iranian almonds) belonged to the export of almond kernels. In addition, 235 tons (23 percent) worth 458,000 USD (6.3 percent of the total export value of Iranian almonds) belonged to the export of shelled almonds. The average price of Iranian almond kernels has been 8.74 USD per kilogram in the first six months of 2022, and the average cost of Iranian shelled almonds has been 1.95 USD per kilogram.

Most of the Iranian shelled almonds exported were to Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq in the first six months of this year. 142 tons of shelled almonds worth 201,000 USD (1.42 USD per kilogram) have been sent to Kuwait in the first six months of 2022. This country had a share of 60 percent in terms of weight and 44 percent of the total export value of Iranian shelled almonds. After Kuwait, the most important customers of Iranian shelled almonds are Qatar with the import of 39 tons worth 100,000 USD (2.56 USD per kilogram), and Iraq with the import of 31 tons worth 73,000 USD (2.35 USD per kilogram). The average price of shelled almonds exported to Kuwait and Qatar compared to other countries indicates that high-quality shelled almonds are exported to these countries.

Most of the Iranian almond kernels exported were to India in the first six months of this year. During this period, 506 tons of almond kernels worth 4,628,000 USD (9.15 USD per kilogram) have been exported to this country. It was equivalent to 64.5 percent in terms of weight and 67.5 percent of the total export value of almond kernels during this period. After India, the most important customers of Iranian almond kernels in the last six months are Iraq with the import of 108 tons worth 985,000 USD (9.12 USD per kilogram), Turkey with importing 80 tons worth 732,0000 USD (9.15 USD per kilogram), and Germany with the import of 51 tons worth 250,000 USD (4.90 USD per kilogram). The average price of almond kernels exported to Germany compared to other countries indicates that industrial and economic almond kernels are sent to this country.

The price of Iranian almonds and almond kernels has decreased compared to last month. As the cost of Iranian almond kernels and shelled almonds remained stable in the domestic market of Iran compared to the past month, the price of the mentioned crops decreased in the world markets compared to last month due to the increase in the foreign exchange rates against the Rial in the domestic market of Iran.
