Peanut Sowing in Gujarat Is One-Third Less

The latest data released by the state agriculture department revealed Gujarat had witnessed a shortfall of nearly one-third in the sowing of peanut and other oil seeds. This Kharif season’s unfavorable weather has been the leading cause of the decline in crop sowing.

According to the latest data released by the Gujarat Agriculture Department, a total of 10,14,700 hectares of peanuts have been sown in the state during the current season so far. However, the sowing was up to 15,40,200 hectares during the last season. This shows a shortfall of 34.11 percent in groundnut sown this time.

All the major producing areas of peanut in Gujarat have lowered their sowing.

Saurashtra is the largest groundnut-producing region of Gujarat. The State Agriculture Department stated that a total of 0.905 million hectares of groundnut had been sown in Saurashtra during the current season. The same 1,253,100 hectares had been planted in the same period a year ago.

North Gujarat is the second largest groundnut-producing region in the state. In the latest data, the State Agriculture Department has told that the current season So far, groundnut has been sown in a total of 93,300 hectares in the area compared to last season’s 0,263 million hectares.

In Kutch, groundnut has been sown in a total of 10,700 hectares which is lower by time to 4100 hectares compared to last season.

Similarly, in Central Gujarat, groundnut last season sown on 8,700 hectares. In comparison, this time, the area covered is 5400 hectares. The situation is the same in South Gujrat, with only 200 hectares compared to last season’s 1600 hectares.
