As indicated by the USDA Crop Production Summary report, U.S. lentil harvest in 2021 finished at 151 thousand metric tons, down by 55% from 2020. The U.S. chickpea crop was 129 thousand metric tons, down 30% from 2020.

On a moderately hopeful note, global lentils markets began in 2022 due to Turkey’s choice not to put import duty until December 31. Canadian red lentil exporters were happy with this decision, resulting in a moderate improvement in prices and exports to Turkey.

Pea’s harvesting might increase in 2022 in Manitoba; most of the cultivators are not preferring nitrogen-subordinate harvests like wheat, canola, and corn. The manure costs are high for these crops. Peas harvesting does not require fertiliser. In 2021, Manitoba producers produced peas around 224 thousand acres, the highest covered area for Peas.

It was assessed in the OATA Myanmar Panel Discussion that the approximate produce for 2022-23 for Black Maple would be around 800 thousand metric tons, including 125 thousand metric tons of previous stocks and new crop production of 675 thousand metric tons. On the interesting side, commodities could be 725 thousand metric tons, leaving behind shutting loads of 75 thousand metric tons.

Further, it was assessed that the complete stock for 2022-23 for Pigeon Pea would be around 256 thousand metric tons, including 10 thousand metric tons of opening stocks and the production of 250 thousand MT this year. On the interesting side, commodities exports demand could be 230 thousand metric tons, leaving behind the stock of 19 thousand metric tons.

The Central Queensland producers are still farming mung beans in Australia and will proceed until February. Early crops in New South Wales and southern Queensland are close to harvest.

Chickpea’s producers in New South Wales of Australia face an unsure future for their collected harvest with rising cargo costs. Subsequently, many have clutch their produce and trust that they will sell when freight costs come down.
