Sesame sowing in Gujarat has decreased by about 51 percent In the current Kharif season till date, Gujarat is witnessing a decrease of about 51 percent in sowing of sesame. This information has been given in the latest data released by the State Agriculture Department. It has been further informed in this information that this time so far there is a huge decline of about 44 to 72 percent in the sowing of sesame in all the major producing areas of Gujarat. The State Agriculture Department in its latest data has said that during the current season till date, a total of 24,400 hectares of sesame have been sown in Gujarat. It had sown 49,700 hectares in the reporting period a year ago. This shows that there has been a decline of 25,300 hectares or 50.90 percent in the sowing of sesame in Gujarat during the current season. There is a significant decline in Saurashtra is the largest sesame-producing state.

According to the latest data from the State Agriculture Department, till date, 21,300 hectares of sesame have been sown in Saurashtra during the current season. During the review period last season, 42,100 hectares of this major Kharif(Winter) oilseed had been sown in the area. This shows that till now there is a decline of 20,800 hectares or 49.40 percent in sesame sown area in this area. North Gujarat: There has been a maximum decline in the sowing of sesame. As per the latest data, the Gujarat Agriculture Department has reported that only 900 hectares of sesame have been sown in North Gujarat during the current season so far. It was sown around 3200 hectares during the same period of last season. It is clear that the sowing of sesame has declined by 2300 hectares or 71.87 percent in the so-far period of the current season.

Next, comes Kutch’s number. According to the State Agriculture Department, sesame has been sown in 1300 hectares in Kutch during the current season so far. It was sown in 2600 hectares in the area a year ago. This shows that this time so far in Kutch, there is a decrease of 1300 hectares or 50 percent in the sowing of this major Kharif oilseed. 900 hectares of sesame have been sown in Central Gujarat during the current season so far. It was sown in 1600 hectares in the area a year ago. It is clear that this time so far in Central Gujarat, there is a decrease of 700 hectares or 43.755 percent in the sowing of sesame.

According to the experts the main reason behind low sowing of sesame seeds is, soybean and cotton sowing increased this season.

Experts state that average buying is limited as of now as sesame prices have increased quite good in last one and half month. Though a minor correction has been noticed in domestic market and dollar is strong as well, but due to good international demand market is not down.

Arrivals are less in sesame local markets as of now. Exporters have got Korean tender and having good inquiries for exports markets, due to which coming days good trade can be expected in sesame market. Therefore, there are hopes in traders that market will not be going down from these levels.
