ODESA: According to operational data, sunflower exports from Ukraine in 2021/22 reached a historical maximum. In total, 1.63 million tons were exported. This was the result of sunflower oil exports decrease and a significant reduction in oilseed processing within the country.
In addition, according to the USDA, Ukraine has become a leader among exporters of sunflower seeds in the world in 2021/22. And, most likely, will stay in this position for one more season.
Subject to the continuation of the grain corridor and the stable operation of the processing sector, sunflower shipments to foreign markets in the new season may decrease to about 1.1-1.2 million tons (-29% compared to 2021/22). But it could become the second largest export volume from Ukraine ever and one of the largest among the supplying countries in the world market.
At the same time, if exports by deep-water ports are again suspended and the volume of shipments of sunflower oil from the country decreases again, oilseed exports in the 2022/23 season may reach 2.5-3 million tons. Thus, taking into account the significant drought in Europe, the demand for Ukrainian sunflower is expected to be at a fairly high level.
At the moment, purchase prices for sunflower seeds in Ukraine vary from 400 to 450 USD/T CPT basis and prices continue to grow.
