March Report Highlights

In the latest report from Stratégie Grains, analysts have revised downwards their forecast for total wheat production in the European Union for the 2024/25 fiscal year. The projection now stands at 128.8 million tons, reflecting a reduction of 1.4 million tons compared to the previous estimate. Soft wheat production is anticipated to reach 121.6 million tons, down by 1 million tons from the previous forecast of 125.7 million tons. Notably, France, Germany, and Poland are expected to witness the most significant decreases in wheat production, while Hungary may experience a modest increase.

Barley Production Outlook

Similarly, Stratégie Grains has adjusted its forecast for barley production in the EU. The total barley production forecast now stands at 51.8 million tons, reflecting a reduction of 1.3 million tons compared to the previous estimate. This adjustment is attributed to decreases in both winter and spring barley production, with respective forecasts of 28.3 million tons and 23.5 million tons.

Positive Trend in Corn Production

In contrast, the forecast for corn production in the EU has been revised upwards by 0.3 million tons to 64.4 million tons. This adjustment is driven by a 4% increase in the area sown, which now stands at 8.8 million hectares.

Implications for the Agricultural Sector

These adjustments underscore the dynamic nature of agricultural production and the various factors that influence crop yields. Farmers and stakeholders in the EU will need to monitor these developments closely as they navigate the upcoming growing season and market conditions.
