Indian Peanuts: Oil-Mill Buying Lifts Gujarat Prices as New Crop Arrives

Peanut prices in Gujarat and export markets firm on higher oil-mill procurement and limited arrivals. Outlook remains sensitive to crushing demand and fresh crop flows.

Groundnut prices in key Indian producing markets, led by Gujarat, are firming as oil mills step up procurement into the new crop, with quotations increasingly driven by crushing demand and still-restricted arrivals. Peanut processors and exporters face a market where nearby supply is tight relative to immediate oil and meal demand. Oil mills in Gujarat and other major belts have raised buying interest, supporting prices even as fresh kharif crop arrivals begin to build. Local mandi data confirm generally higher or volatile groundnut quotes this week, while export-grade Indian peanuts show a modest uptick in EUR-denominated FOB values. With the oilseed industry closely monitoring both quality and flow of new arrivals, the market is poised to remain sensitive to any shift in crushing requirements or harvest pace.

Prices

Groundnut prices strengthened in Gujarat and select producing markets as oil mills increased procurement, validating the firmer tone seen in wholesale mandi quotes in late October 2026. Modal groundnut prices across Gujarat have edged higher week on week, with several APMC yards reporting gains in the low single digits as millers compete for fresh, good-quality crop.

Export and processing indications in EUR also reflect this firm bias. Recent quotations (FOB/EXW, 24 October 2026 unless stated) show:

Product Origin / Location Delivery Latest price (EUR) Prev. price (EUR)
Peanuts, roasted split 60/70/80 IN, New Delhi FOB 1.23 1.22
Peanuts, bold 40-50 IN, Gujarat - Gondal FOB 1.09 1.08
Peanuts, java 70-80 IN, New Delhi FOB 1.17 1.16
Peanuts, java 50-60 IN, New Delhi FOB 1.29 1.28
Peanuts, raw BR, Brasília FOB 1.27 1.26

These incremental increases underline that the firmness in domestic groundnut markets is already feeding through into export-grade pricing.

Supply & Demand

According to local market indications, processing demand and restricted availability are the key supports for current groundnut quotations. Oil mills are actively covering near-term crushing needs, while supplies from major producing districts in Gujarat, Rajasthan and other belts remain relatively tight early in the harvest window.

Mandi data from Gujarat show mixed but generally elevated prices versus earlier in October, with several key yards reporting stronger quotes for groundnut and groundnut seed over the last two to three trading days as arrivals remain modest relative to mill demand.

The oilseed industry is closely monitoring fresh crop arrivals and, crucially, the quality profile. Reports suggest that buyers are showing particular price sensitivity to lots with better oil content and lower moisture, reinforcing premiums for higher grades. Groundnut prices are therefore likely to remain highly responsive to changes in crushing requirements, arrival volumes and grade differentials from major producing districts.

Fundamentals & Weather

Structurally, the Indian groundnut market enters this kharif marketing phase against a backdrop of robust longer-term price gains since early 2026, driven by a combination of steady edible oil demand and competition from other oilseeds. Current firmness is less about outright shortage and more about the timing mismatch between millers' buying programs and the gradual build-up of arrivals.

Weather conditions across key Gujarat groundnut belts have been broadly favorable for harvest progress in recent days, allowing farmers to move new crop into markets. However, any localized post-monsoon showers or delays could temporarily restrict arrivals and amplify price sensitivity. Given that quality can deteriorate quickly under wet conditions, oil mills are likely to stay selective, which can widen spreads between FAQ and premium lots.

Short-Term Outlook & Trading Ideas

With oil mills maintaining active procurement and arrivals still normalizing, the near-term balance in Indian groundnuts looks mildly supportive. Prices may consolidate at elevated levels but remain vulnerable to swings in crushing demand and arrival pace.

  • Millers & crushers: Consider covering a portion of November–December requirements on current dips, but keep flexibility to buy hand-to-mouth if arrivals accelerate and quality improves.
  • Exporters: Lock in sales on premium grades where FOB values have already ticked higher, but avoid overcommitting volumes until the quality mix of the new crop is clearer.
  • Importers/roasters: For those relying on Indian-origin kernels, stagger purchases and use current offers as a baseline, anticipating only limited downside unless arrivals surge unexpectedly.
  • Farmers: Where storage and finance allow, gradual selling into strength may be preferable to heavy spot liquidation, given ongoing mill demand and quality premiums.

3-Day Market Indication

  • Gujarat domestic (mandis): Slightly firm to sideways bias as mills continue procurement and early-crop arrivals remain measured.
  • Indian export FOB (New Delhi / Gujarat ports): Steady to marginally firmer on java and bold kernels, reflecting recent EUR price upticks.
  • Brazil FOB raw peanuts: Stable to mildly firm, with EUR indications holding marginally above previous levels.
