Onion prices in Rajasthan are expected to stay broadly stable as arrivals and stock movement balance softer national levels. Concise outlook, drivers and trading view.

Onion prices in Rajasthan are expected to hold broadly steady in the near term, with further sharp declines looking unlikely unless arrivals surge significantly. The market remains finely balanced between soft national benchmarks and locally supported wholesale buying. Rajasthan sits in a national onion market that has eased by about 6% over the past month, yet regional fundamentals are preventing a deeper correction. Fresh reports point to modal wholesale prices in Indian mandis around ₹2,346 per quintal nationally, with Rajasthan trading at a discount near ₹1,600 per quintal as of mid‑October, while some key consuming centres such as Lasalgaon have just seen an 18% rebound in the last two days.  In Rajasthan, the immediate outlook hinges on arrivals into wholesale markets, stock positions and the pace of dispatches towards consumption hubs.

Prices

Recent mandi data show a mixed picture between national and regional levels. Nationally, the modal wholesale onion price stands near ₹2,346 per quintal as of 15 October 2026, down around 5.9% over the last 30 days. Meanwhile, Rajasthan trades below this benchmark, with a modal level near ₹1,600 per quintal as of 14 October, confirming a softer regional base but without signs of disorderly selling.

At the same time, some key consuming markets are turning higher again: average wholesale prices at Lasalgaon APMC have risen by about 18% over the past two days to roughly ₹4,400 per quintal, reversing the previous fortnight’s downtrend and signalling that downside in origin markets may be limited if demand continues to absorb supply. For processed and export-oriented products quoted in EUR, current indications are also flat, with no changes versus previous quotations.

Supply & Demand

The current Rajasthan outlook points to relative price stability rather than a confirmed uptrend. Expectations are that prices will resist substantial further declines provided buying continues to absorb available supplies and stock levels remain orderly. Local demand from regional consumption centres and inter-state movement will be central to sustaining this floor.

However, the balance is fragile. Reports from Indian mandis indicate that arrivals have recently been sufficient to pressure national averages lower, and Rajasthan modal prices remain notably below the all-India level. Additional arrivals into key APMC markets or a slowdown in wholesale procurement could quickly tilt the market back into a mild downtrend, especially given the still-comfortable supply backdrop after recent harvests.

Weather & Logistics

Weather over West Rajasthan in the coming days is generally benign for storage and logistics. Meteorological guidance points to mainly clear to partly cloudy skies with only isolated thunderstorms possible around 16 October, and no significant weather warnings beyond that for the sub-division. This should support smooth arrivals and stock movement, limiting weather-related supply disruptions.

Given this forecast, physical flows rather than climatic shocks are expected to drive short-term volatility. If transport and labour availability remain normal, stocks are likely to move steadily from producing belts into consumption markets, reinforcing the current expectation of stable-to-soft prices rather than extreme swings.

Fundamentals & Market Signals

Fundamentals currently offer mixed but broadly non-bullish signals. On the one hand, national prices have eased over the last month, reflecting comfortable availability. On the other, the fresh upswing in Lasalgaon emphasizes that demand can quickly lift benchmarks when arrivals tighten temporarily, suggesting that downside in origin markets like Rajasthan is not unlimited.

Within value-added and export segments, EUR-denominated quotations for onion powder, flakes and fried onions have been flat across several consecutive updates, indicating stable contractual demand and little cost pressure from raw material at this stage. This stability in processed prices aligns with the regional assessment that the market is in a consolidation phase rather than entering a new price cycle.

Trading Outlook (Next 1–2 Weeks)

  • Producers in Rajasthan: Consider staggered selling rather than aggressive liquidation; current indications suggest prices are unlikely to collapse further unless arrivals accelerate sharply.
  • Wholesalers & stockists: Maintain moderate inventories; use any short-lived dips triggered by heavy daily arrivals to replenish, but avoid overextension given the still-soft national backdrop.
  • Importers/exporters of processed onion: With FCA/FOB EUR prices stable, focus on securing logistics and currency hedging rather than timing the physical market; no immediate signal of strong upside or downside in raw material costs.

3-Day Directional Price View

  • Rajasthan physical mandis: Sideways to slightly firm; local buying and movement to consumption markets likely to offset softer national averages.
  • India all-India benchmark: Mildly soft bias after recent 30-day decline, but risk of short-term rebounds where arrivals tighten.
  • Processed onion (FOB/FCA in EUR): Stable; no change expected in the next three days for powders, flakes and fried onions based on current quotations.
