Last year, cumin was sown on 0.3 million hectares in Gujarat, which has been done on 0.14 million hectares in the current year, according to the government’s figures. Due to this, there is a possibility of a 10 to 15% decrease in the sowing of cumin in Gujarat.

Cumin sowing increases

According to the sowing in the current year, there was a possibility of 6.5 to 6.8 million bags of cumin. Still, due to the deficit in the previous phase, 4.5 million bags of cumin were harvested. Due to this, the sowing of cumin increases as much as last year, and if the environment is favourable, then 6.5 to 7.0 million bags of cumin can be produced in the new season. At the beginning of the current year, the carry-forward stock of cumin was 2.2 to 2.5 million bags, which is not enough for the new season.

Demand from China

There has been no demand in China for the last 2 months due to the lockdown, but whenever China has to buy cumin, it will always import cumin from India. Due to this, the demand from China will come out after 1 or 2 months. Like every year, the domestic market will get support in cumin from January due to the onset of Indian festivities.

There is a possibility of export demand for cumin on a large scale in the next 2 months. The cumin stock in Pakistan was 100 to 110 containers last year, which is currently only 20 to 25 containers. The stock level in Gulf countries, Dubai, Kuwait, Bangladesh and China, is also significantly less than last year.

Looking at the future of vacuum demand for cumin, there is a possibility of a massive outbreak in the coming time.

The Cumin A Grade 99% pure prices were recorded at $3,17 per kg FOB.
