Enhanced Maritime Operations

The Ukrainian Sea Corridor has entered into continuous operation, functioning round the clock since last week following approvals from the Ukrainian Navy. Yuriy Vaskov, Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, confirmed this development on March 14, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

Record-Breaking Trade Volumes

Vaskov highlighted that the corridor achieved record-breaking export and import transportation volumes in February, totaling 8 million tonnes. Notably, agricultural products dominated this traffic, accounting for 60-65%, with the remainder comprising ore, metals, and fertilizer imports.

Promising Growth Prospects

With operations now mirroring February’s pace due to recent adverse weather conditions, Vaskov expressed optimism about the corridor’s potential for further growth, anticipating a minimum 20% volume increase.

Expanding Container Shipping

In a bid to diversify transportation options, plans are underway to introduce container shipments through the Ukrainian Sea Corridor within the next two to three weeks. Feeder vessels will kickstart this initiative, paving the way for subsequent container lines, barring any unforeseen mishaps.

Future Restoration Plans

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Restoration aims to reinstate car ferry services within two weeks and railway ferry services within two months, further bolstering transportation infrastructure and facilitating smoother trade operations.
