Corn futures on Euronext, CBOT and DCE are flat while European and Black Sea physical corn prices ease amid advancing US harvest and active South American planting.

Corn futures are trading sideways on all major exchanges, while physical prices in Europe and the Black Sea have softened modestly. With the US harvest nearing completion and South American planting progressing, the market is well-supplied, keeping rallies capped despite ongoing logistical risks around Ukrainian exports.

The corn market is currently dominated by harvest and planting fundamentals rather than sharp speculative moves. Euronext corn is holding in a relatively tight range, CBOT contracts are edging slightly higher on short-covering, and Dalian corn is firm but not breaking out. In contrast, European and Ukrainian cash prices have drifted lower in recent weeks, reflecting comfortable nearby availability and intense competition from Black Sea origins. At the same time, US harvest is approaching the final stretch and Brazil and Argentina are steadily advancing new-crop planting, reinforcing a broadly bearish-to-neutral tone.

Prices

Euronext corn (Nov 2026) last traded at 265.00 EUR/t, unchanged on the day, with the forward curve easing into the 2027–2028 contracts: Mar 2027 at 246.00 EUR/t, Jun 2027 at 245.25 EUR/t and Aug 2027 at 246.50 EUR/t. Further out, Nov 2027 is marked at 221.00 EUR/t and Nov 2028 at 191.25 EUR/t, underscoring a distinctly downward-sloping term structure for European corn.

On CBOT, nearby Dec 2026 corn is trading around 440.00–441.25 USc/bu, up only marginally on the day, with a modest carry into Mar 2027 at 455.75 USc/bu and Jul 2027 at 471.75 USc/bu. The 2027–2028 strip continues to price in comfortable global balance, with Dec 2027 at 485.00 USc/bu and Dec 2028 near 491.25 USc/bu. On the Dalian Commodity Exchange, front-month Nov 2026 corn closed at 2,207 CNY/t, up 0.36%, with Jan 2027 at 2,232 CNY/t and steady interest along the curve.

Supply & Demand

US corn harvest reached roughly three-quarters complete by November 1, 2026, at about 74% of area, slightly behind the five-year average but still advancing steadily as fields dry out. Crop condition ratings into late October remained near mid-range, pointing to a broadly adequate US crop, and larger on-farm supplies are now moving into the pipeline, easing near-term supply tightness.

In South America, Brazil and Argentina are progressing with 2026/27 corn planting, with reports of generally smooth fieldwork despite some localized delays, and agronomists highlighting that planting in Brazil is moving quickly in key producing regions. Strong domestic demand from Brazil’s expanding corn ethanol sector and ongoing export ambitions continue to underpin long-run acreage, but for now the market views South American production prospects as broadly favorable, reinforcing global supply comfort.

Ukraine remains a key swing supplier, but export flows through Black Sea and alternative routes face renewed headwinds. EU and international monitoring highlight that Russian strikes and logistical disruptions have sharply reduced traffic through Ukraine’s deep-water ports, increasing transport costs and contributing to an export bottleneck just as farmers need cash from the current crop. However, the softness of Ukrainian CPT and FOB corn prices indicates that, despite these constraints, sufficient volumes are still seeking outlets and are pressuring regional basis levels.

Weather & Crop Conditions

In the United States, recent reports indicate that harvest weather into early November has been mixed but generally workable, allowing farmers to make significant progress after earlier delays. With 74% of the crop harvested and the remainder concentrated in a handful of northern and eastern states, weather risks for the 2026 US corn crop are now limited primarily to localized harvest delays and potential quality downgrades rather than large yield losses.

In Brazil’s key Center-West and southern states, November weather has so far supported first-crop corn and soybean planting, with agronomists describing conditions as mostly favorable for emergence, even if some areas report uneven fieldwork due to the prioritization of soybeans and winter-crop harvest. Argentina’s early planting is also reported to be progressing smoothly. Overall, the short-term weather outlook does not justify a weather premium in prices, keeping global corn values capped.

Fundamentals & Basis

The pronounced downward slope of the Euronext corn curve, from 265.00 EUR/t in Nov 2026 to 191.25 EUR/t for Nov 2028, signals expectations of structurally easier balances as new crops come to market and logistics normalize. The stability of nearby futures, despite softer physical quotes in France, Germany and Ukraine, points to strong hedging activity and a reluctance among commercial sellers to chase the market significantly lower in the short term.

In the physical market, French FOB yellow corn at 0.27 EUR and German EXW feed corn at 0.28 EUR have both eased from late-October levels, mirroring the decline in Ukrainian CPT and FOB prices around Odesa. This convergence reflects intense competition from Black Sea origins into Mediterranean and EU feed channels, as well as solid local supply in core EU feed regions. Organic and specialty segments, such as Indian organic corn starch at 1.33 EUR FOB and Brazilian-origin popcorn at 0.81 EUR FCA in the Netherlands, remain largely insulated from this pressure and show price stability.

Trading Outlook (Next 1–2 Weeks)

  • Futures: With harvest nearly complete in the US and benign South American weather, Euronext and CBOT corn are likely to remain range-bound, with modest downside bias unless fresh supply shocks emerge.
  • Europe: Buyers in Western Europe may continue to see incremental softness in feed-grade corn basis, especially for nearby shipments, as Ukrainian and EU supplies compete; deferred positions are more fairly priced.
  • Black Sea: Ukrainian FOB and CPT corn could stay under pressure given export bottlenecks, but any escalation of attacks on ports or logistics could quickly translate into risk premiums on forward positions.
  • Specialty segments: Organic starch and popcorn prices are expected to remain stable, supported by niche demand and limited alternative origins.

3-Day Directional Price Indication

  • Euronext corn futures: Sideways to slightly softer, with the curve remaining in contango and limited fresh bullish catalysts.
  • CBOT corn: Mildly firm intraday on short-covering, but overall flat to marginally higher within the recent trading band.
  • EU & Black Sea physical: Slight further easing in FOB/CPT indications likely as harvest grain continues to flow and logistics work through existing bottlenecks.
