Fenugreek Seeds: Range-Bound Market as Weak Demand Caps Upside
Fenugreek prices remain range-bound as subdued trader and processor buying offsets supply-side support. Brief outlook, key drivers and short-term trading view.
Prices
FOB quotations highlight a broadly steady but capped market. Latest offers from New Delhi (FOB, EUR) show:
| Product | Origin | Location | Delivery | Latest price (EUR/kg) | Previous price (EUR/kg) | Last update |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fenugreek seeds, organic | India | New Delhi | FOB | 0.95 | 0.94 | 26 Sep 2026 |
| Fenugreek seeds, 99% purity | India | New Delhi | FOB | 0.66 | 0.65 | 26 Sep 2026 |
| Fenugreek seeds, FAQ machine clean | India | New Delhi | FOB | 0.69 | 0.68 | 26 Sep 2026 |
| Fenugreek seeds powder, organic | India | New Delhi | FOB | 1.03 | 1.02 | 26 Sep 2026 |
| Fenugreek seeds, conventional | Egypt | Cairo | FOB | 0.97 | 0.98 | 25 Sep 2026 |
Small week-on-week increases of EUR 0.01/kg on key Indian lines confirm a gently firmer tone, but the absolute moves are marginal and consistent with a range-bound environment.
Supply & Demand
On the supply side, availability from India and Egypt remains adequate. Recent export shipment data show continuing flows from India, Egypt, Turkey and Morocco into a broad set of destinations, indicating that global trade channels are functioning normally and that there is no acute shortage on the export side.
Demand is the main weak spot. Buying from traders and processors is described as subdued, and recent Indian data show that fenugreek exports in Apr–Jun fell by around 23% year on year, in line with a wider 25% drop in spice export volumes. This confirms that external demand has been soft, with domestic usage currently the primary support for the market.
Domestic Indian wholesale benchmarks have shown notable volatility in September, with some mandis posting sharp short-term rallies and others easing back. Reported benchmark prices cluster in the mid-double-digit rupees per kg range, pointing to a market that is firming from earlier lows but still lacks a strong directional trend.

Fundamentals
Fundamentally, current conditions do not support a strong, sustained rally. Stocks at trader and processor level appear sufficient, and there is no widespread evidence of crop stress or structural supply loss. The dominant producing regions in India are close to the rabi sowing window, but planting intentions have not yet become a decisive driver.
The key imbalance is on the demand side: with export volumes lower and processors cautious, any price rise quickly meets resistance. At the same time, FOB offers in EUR have held broadly steady even as rupee-denominated mandi prices swung higher at times, underscoring comfortable export-side coverage and competitive pressure among origins.
Unless there is a visible pickup in overseas inquiries or a surprise tightening in domestic supplies, fenugreek is likely to remain a carry market with limited appetite for long-risk positions beyond nearby needs.
Weather & Crop Outlook
Fenugreek is primarily a cool-season rabi crop in India, with sowing concentrated in October–November in major producing states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. For the immediate horizon, weather is more relevant for sowing conditions than for current supply.
Short-term forecasts for North and West India point to mostly seasonally normal conditions into early October, with no major extremes flagged that would materially disrupt early sowing or seed distribution. In the absence of weather shocks, demand trends will remain the key price driver in the coming weeks.
Short-Term Trading Outlook
- Importers / end-users: Use current range-bound conditions and modest FOB upticks to secure nearby and part of Q4 coverage, but avoid chasing prices higher given the weak demand backdrop.
- Exporters / shippers: Maintain competitive offers and focus on destination-specific demand rather than volume expansion; consider hedging margins where local mandi volatility is high.
- Traders: Favor short-dated, range-bound strategies over directional bets; look to sell into spikes driven by local mandi tightness unless backed by clear export demand.
3-day directional outlook (spot indications)
- India (FOB New Delhi, seeds & powder): Stable to slightly soft, with prices expected to oscillate within a narrow band around current EUR levels.
- Egypt (FOB Cairo, seeds): Steady to mildly weaker, as competitive pressure from Indian offers and moderate demand limit upside.
