Garlic prices from Egypt and India stay stable as Egypt boosts exports and India faces monsoon risks. Overview of prices, supply, weather and trading outlook.

Garlic prices from Egypt and India are broadly stable into late June, with FOB offers for Egyptian fresh garlic and Indian organic garlic powder unchanged over recent updates. Export flows from Egypt remain strong, while India’s spice complex is firm but not overheated. Weather is seasonally hot in Egypt and a still‑developing monsoon in India keeps medium‑term supply risks on the radar rather than in the price. Global garlic trade is currently characterized by comfortable spot availability but firmer undertones where quality or processed formats are concerned. Egypt has increased its role as a supplier to Asia and Latin America, underpinning a solid export floor.  In India, garlic prices are relatively high in domestic mandis and the wider spice basket is described as firm on tight arrivals and active export demand.  While no immediate weather shock is visible, expectations of a below‑normal monsoon and El Niño‑linked risks argue against complacency.

Indicative domestic wholesale prices in India remain elevated, with average garlic quotes around INR 14,000/quintal nationally (≈ EUR 0.17/kg) and Delhi levels somewhat below this average.  European‑facing Indian exporters report bulb prices near USD 1,140/mt (≈ EUR 1,060/mt, i.e. ≈ EUR 1.06/kg) and garlic flakes near USD 1,710/mt (≈ EUR 1,590/mt, ≈ EUR 1.59/kg), underlining firmer values for processed and higher‑quality material.

Supply & Demand

Egyptian garlic supply is underpinned by strong export programs. Recent data highlight that onions and garlic have successfully expanded into stricter Asian and Latin American markets, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a reliable allium supplier.  Ample fresh availability and competitive freight continue to support FOB offers, with buyers focusing on quality, residue compliance and flexible shipment windows rather than on headline price moves.

In India, garlic is part of a generally firm spice complex, where market commentary points to tight arrivals and active domestic and export demand.  Mandi data show wide regional price dispersion but overall robust levels, consistent with constrained supply in some producing belts.  Removal of minimum export price constraints for some garlic products has further supported export interest from Indian processors and traders.

Weather Watch (EG, IN)

Egypt: For Saturday, 27 June 2026, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority expects hot and humid daytime conditions in northern regions including Greater Cairo, and very hot weather in the south.  Such conditions are seasonally normal and do not presently threaten garlic quality in storage, though they increase reliance on adequate ventilation and cold‑chain capacity, especially for export‑grade bulbs.

India: The 2026 southwest monsoon has been uneven so far, with national rainfall running below normal and government commentary flagging risks to kharif crops.  Recent updates indicate the monsoon is slowly progressing inland and is expected to cover more of the country into early July.  While garlic is largely a rabi crop, a weaker monsoon can affect water availability and planting decisions for the next cycle, providing a mild bullish undertone for forward prices.

Fundamentals & Market Tone

  • Egypt: High export volumes of onions and garlic, plus policy support for agricultural exports, indicate that supply chains are functioning smoothly, limiting immediate upside in FOB fresh garlic despite hot weather.
  • India: Spice market commentary describes garlic as firm on tight arrivals and strong export and domestic demand, with processed forms (flakes, powder) commanding notable premiums.
  • Macro/weather risk: Official and independent assessments warn of a below‑normal, El Niño‑influenced monsoon in 2026, raising medium‑term risks for vegetable and spice supply.

Trading Outlook

  • Importers (MENA/EU): Use current flat FOB Egyptian fresh garlic levels to secure near‑term coverage, prioritising quality and logistics rather than waiting for lower prices, as strong export programs and hot weather could tighten availability of top grades later in summer.
  • Buyers of Indian powder/processed garlic: Expect a firm to slightly higher bias into Q3 as monsoon uncertainty and tight arrivals persist. Consider staggered purchases and partial forward coverage, especially for organic powder, to manage potential weather‑driven volatility.
  • Producers/Exporters: In Egypt, maintain discipline on quality and cold‑chain to monetize strong demand from Asia and Latin America. In India, avoid aggressive discounting; current indications suggest limited downside while monsoon risks remain unresolved.

3-Day Directional Price View (EUR, FOB)

  • Egypt – Fresh garlic, Cairo FOB: Sideways over the next three days; hot but seasonal weather and active exports suggest stable to slightly firm tone, but no clear trigger for immediate price break.
  • India – Organic garlic powder, New Delhi FOB: Sideways to mildly firmer bias; firm domestic garlic and strong spice demand support current levels, while monsoon‑related supply concerns are still more medium‑term than immediate.
