India’s debate over restricting sugar-based ethanol feedstocks could push more maize into biofuel, tighten supplies for feed users and support firmer corn prices.

Feed-grade corn ex-warehouse in northern Germany (Drentwede) is quoted around EUR 0.295/kg as of 14 September 2026, broadly flat on the previous day but modestly above late August levels, signalling a gradual upward drift in nearby values.
Black Sea origins continue to trade at a clear discount to EU inland prices. Ukrainian feed-grade corn CPT Odesa last traded near EUR 0.168–0.172/kg over 9–11 September, while FOB offers from the region remain in the mid-EUR 0.16/kg range, maintaining competitiveness for importers. Organic corn starch FOB New Delhi is quoted at about EUR 1.30/kg, unchanged for several weeks, indicating that value-added and specialty segments are so far insulated from the feed-market tensions.

This concern is amplified by the already significant role maize plays in India’s grain-based ethanol programme and by growing structural demand.
