Indian Organic Clove FOB Prices Steady in Thin Late-March Trade

Spread the news!

Indian organic clove export prices are holding steady in late March, with New Delhi FOB levels flat week-on-week and only marginally softer versus late February. Limited fresh crop news and stable domestic wholesale prices point to a short-term sideways market.

Despite broader volatility in agri and edible oil markets, cloves are seeing calm conditions. Domestic benchmark data for Cochin showed only a mild softening into late January, and no major supply-side shock has emerged since then.  Import-dependent markets in the Middle East and Europe are reported quiet, with buyers comfortable on near-term coverage. Weather in India’s main spice corridors remains seasonally warm with no acute disruption to clove trees or logistics, while Delhi’s wholesale spice trade operates normally outside usual Sunday closures.

📈 Prices

FOB New Delhi indications for Indian-origin organic cloves (whole and ground) are unchanged compared with the previous week, reflecting balanced spot demand and comfortable seller positions. Versus late February, the small earlier dip has largely stabilised, suggesting that recent price discovery is complete for now.

Product Origin / Location Term Latest Price (EUR/kg) 1 Week Change 4 Week Change
Cloves, organic, ground India / New Delhi FOB ~9.70 EUR 0% ~0%
Cloves, organic, whole India / New Delhi FOB ~9.60 EUR 0% ~0%

At the domestic wholesale level, late-January Cochin benchmark prices around INR 803/kg for cloves suggest export offers near current EUR-equivalent levels allow for workable margins but little room for aggressive discounting.

🌍 Supply & Demand

No fresh national or international clove-specific reports have been issued over the past three days, and available official price bulletins point to stable conditions rather than a structural tightening.  India remains a small but important clove producer and a key re-export hub; current trade flows are largely routine, with importers reportedly sufficiently covered for nearby shipments.

In Delhi NCR, Khari Baoli and associated spice hubs continue to act as primary distribution centres, offering strong availability of whole cloves and other high-value spices.  Demand from foodservice and packers is steady but not aggressively expanding ahead of the hot-season lull, which helps cap upside momentum despite broader food inflation trends.

📊 Fundamentals & Weather

Domestic clove fundamentals in India currently show:

  • Stable farm & wholesale prices into Q1 2026, with only mild softening at Cochin through late January.
  • No major weather shock in the main spice belts; recent rainfall in north India, including the Delhi region, has created some local logistics noise but no systemic disruption to spice flows.
  • Macro backdrop of higher food and edible oil costs, which may gradually support clove prices via substitution and value perception but has not yet triggered a buying rush.

Weather over the next few days across key Indian spice trade corridors is expected to remain seasonally warm with isolated showers, but no severe event is forecast that would materially affect clove supply or inland transport.

📆 3-Day Market & Price Outlook (Region: IN)

For India (FOB New Delhi basis), the near-term outlook is for quiet, range-bound trading:

  • Whole cloves, organic (FOB New Delhi, EUR/kg): likely to trade in a narrow band around 9.6 EUR, with a ±0.1 EUR/kg bias as buyers test the lower edge of the range.
  • Ground cloves, organic (FOB New Delhi, EUR/kg): expected around 9.7 EUR, also in a flat to slightly soft bias given adequate raw material availability and calm export enquiry.
  • Domestic wholesale (Cochin reference, EUR/kg): broadly stable when converted from INR benchmarks, with no strong signal yet of either fresh tightening or liquidation.

💰 Trading Outlook

  • Importers / Blenders (EU & Middle East): Consider layering modest coverage for Q2 needs at current levels; upside risk appears limited in the next 2–3 weeks, but current prices are near the lower end of the past year on a INR basis.
  • Indian exporters: With FOB New Delhi offers flat and domestic benchmarks still providing margin, focus on securing forward sales rather than discounting, especially for organic lots where certified supply is finite.
  • End users / Retail packers in India: Spot buying remains attractive at present wholesale levels; given the calm fundamentals and lack of weather stress, aggressive forward stocking is not yet warranted.
