Polish Sugar Beet: Tighter 2026 Crop Meets Firm White Sugar Market

Poland’s 2026 sugar beet crop is down about 15.5%, while global sugar stays firm, supporting stable-to-higher FCA sugar prices in and around Poland.

Polish sugar and sugar‑beet–linked prices are edging higher as a smaller 2026 beet crop and a firm global white sugar market underpin FCA values in Central Europe. World raw sugar has held its September gains, while EU sugar prices remain relatively sticky despite shorter beet campaigns in key producers, keeping a constructive tone for Polish beet processors and growers. Spot sugar prices around Poland are stable to slightly higher, reflecting both tighter domestic beet supply and resilient regional demand. Poland’s 2026 sugar beet harvest is officially projected well below last year, while fresh satellite-based estimates confirm weaker yields in parts of the country. At the same time, global sugar remains supported after recent rallies, and EU industry signals point to a campaign that is short rather than surplus-heavy. Together, these factors suggest that local beet-linked prices are unlikely to soften in the very short term.

Prices

Physical white sugar and derived beet values in and around Poland are firming:

  • FCA Warsaw, PL, white-crystal sugar (Icumsa-45, origin PL): 0.62 EUR/kg (previous: 0.58 EUR/kg).
  • FCA Kalisz, PL, granulated sugar Kat EU2 (origin PL): 0.58–0.59 EUR/kg, broadly stable versus late September.
  • FCA Marijampole, LT, ICUMSA 45 sugar (origin LT): 0.54 EUR/kg, up from 0.52 EUR/kg at end September.
  • FCA Vyškov, CZ, icing sugar (origin CZ): 0.77 EUR/kg, marginally above late-September levels.

World benchmark raw sugar prices consolidated at elevated levels in September, with the ISA Daily Raw Sugar Price averaging 18.4 US cents/lb, about 6% above August, keeping a supportive floor under refined and beet-linked values globally.

Supply & Demand

On the supply side, Statistics Poland’s preliminary estimate points to a 2026 sugar beet harvest of about 15.7 million tonnes, roughly 15.5% below the 2025 crop, signalling materially tighter domestic beet availability.  Fresh satellite-based assessments released on 12 October 2026 confirm reduced yield expectations and provide detailed maps of beet condition across Poland, reinforcing the view of a below-average campaign.

Across Europe, early reports suggest shorter beet campaigns in several key regions. In the UK, the 2026/27 beet campaign has just started, with three of four British Sugar factories processing and expectations of a relatively short campaign due to summer drought stress.  In France, analytical commentary notes a campaign duration nearer 97 days versus a 122-day norm, yet EU sugar prices have so far remained firm rather than spiking, suggesting that buyers had partly anticipated tighter beet supply.

These signals, combined with earlier EU-wide decisions to reduce beet area for 2025/26 and indications of further cuts discussed for 2026/27,  imply that regional sugar output will remain constrained relative to demand. For Polish growers and factories, this backdrop supports stable-to-firm beet remuneration and limits downside risk on refined product prices into the new marketing year.

Weather & Campaign Conditions (PL)

Recent national and satellite assessments highlight that the 2026 growing season in Poland has left sugar beet yields uneven, with some regions affected by moisture deficits and others closer to average. The satellite-based survey published on 12 October 2026 explicitly includes yield forecasts and crop-condition ratings for sugar beet, underscoring spatial variability but overall weaker performance than in 2025.

Field-level information from Polish beet grower organisations in northern regions (e.g., around Malbork) confirms that the 2026 campaign is underway, with official sampling of factory-yard beet roots for sugar-content verification conducted in early October.  This indicates that factories are already processing and quality control is in focus, an important factor for net beet revenues where lower tonnage may be partially offset by adequate polarisations.

Fundamentals & Market Drivers

  • Global backdrop: After a strong rally in August, world raw sugar prices remain elevated, with September averages higher month on month, signalling that the global market has swung from surplus toward a tighter balance.
  • EU structural tightness: Previous reductions of around 11% in EU sugar beet area for 2025/26 and planned cuts for 2026/27 keep the bloc structurally tighter, limiting the scope for large exportable surpluses and supporting internal price levels.
  • Campaign length: Reports of shorter campaigns in France and the UK point to constrained processing windows and less time to build stocks, which tends to underpin white sugar prices into Q1.
  • Poland-specific fundamentals: The roughly 15.5% year-on-year drop in Polish beet production implies tighter domestic sugar output and more reliance on imports or stock drawdowns.  In this context, the recent step-up in FCA Warsaw white-crystal prices to 0.62 EUR/kg is consistent with tightening fundamentals.

Short-Term Outlook & Trading Takeaways

Given the combination of tighter Polish beet supply, shorter campaigns in key EU producers and a still-firm global sugar complex, local sugar beet–linked prices are likely to remain supported in the very near term.

  • Producers (growers): With a smaller national crop and ongoing processing, there is little incentive to delay deliveries purely on price expectations; focus on maximising quality (sugar content) to capture existing price premiums.
  • Processors: Current FCA price levels appear justified by fundamentals; consider cautious forward sales rather than aggressive discounting, especially while world benchmarks remain near recent highs.
  • Industrial buyers: For Q4 2026–Q1 2027, securing a portion of volumes at today’s FCA levels looks prudent, as regional supply risks and elevated global prices reduce the probability of near-term price relief.

3-Day Regional Price Indication (PL)

Over the next three trading days in Poland, sugar beet–linked ex-factory prices are expected to remain broadly stable to fractionally firmer around current FCA quotations:

  • FCA Warsaw, PL: sideways to slightly upward bias around 0.62 EUR/kg.
  • FCA Kalisz, PL: stable in the 0.58–0.59 EUR/kg range.
  • Nearby Lithuanian and Czech FCA offers: holding close to 0.54 EUR/kg (LT) and 0.77 EUR/kg (CZ) respectively, providing a firm regional floor.
