Rapeseed market July 2026: MATIF in a high range, Ukrainian basis under pressure from logistics risks, EU balance tight. Concise outlook and price view.

Rapeseed prices are consolidating at elevated levels on futures exchanges, with physical values in the EU and Ukraine stable to slightly softer as logistics risks and mixed weather keep a firm floor under the market rather than triggering a clear breakout. Rapeseed is trading in a higher range on both MATIF and ICE canola, with August–November 2026 contracts clustered around EUR 540–550/t on Euronext and Canadian canola up more than 1% on the day. Physical rapeseed in Ukraine and France is broadly steady in EUR terms, but Black Sea logistics disruptions are pressuring Ukrainian farmgate and crusher bids even as EU supply remains relatively tight. Weather in key EU rapeseed regions is mixed but not yet catastrophic, leaving participants focused on risk management rather than directional bets.

Prices

MATIF rapeseed futures are holding a firm structure: Aug 2026 last traded around EUR 544/t, with Nov 2026 at roughly EUR 550/t and Feb 2027 near EUR 548/t. The forward curve then eases into 2027–2028, with Aug 2027 and beyond closer to EUR 500/t, signalling expectations of some medium-term supply relief.

ICE canola contracts are also firmer, with Nov 2026 up about 1.4% on the day, reinforcing the bullish tone in the wider oilseed complex. In the physical market, latest offers show Ukrainian rapeseed around EUR 510–520/t FCA Odesa/Kyiv and about EUR 484/t CPT Odesa, while French FOB Paris indications are near EUR 680/t, reflecting freight and quality premiums into EU crush demand.

Supply & Demand

The EU balance for 2026/27 remains relatively tight. The latest official oilseed outlooks trim EU rapeseed production only modestly, keeping output near 20.5 million tonnes while crush demand stays robust, particularly from the biodiesel sector. This combination underpins a need for continued imports from Ukraine and other origins, limiting downside for MATIF even as harvest pressure builds.

In Ukraine, Black Sea port disruptions following renewed Russian strikes are disrupting grain and oilseed export flows, including rapeseed. Recent reports highlight heavier attacks on Odesa-region terminals and a temporary halt or slowdown of deep-water exports, forcing traders towards Danube and overland routes with higher logistics costs. Crushers and exporters are adjusting bids lower in local currency, which translates into softer EUR-level CPT/FCA prices despite solid external demand.

Fundamentals & Weather

Fundamentals are characterised by a firm but not explosive oilseed complex. ICE canola’s recent gains, coupled with relatively steady palm and soybean oil markets, provide background support to rapeseed values. Speculative money appears more cautious than aggressively long, leaving space for weather or logistics headlines to generate short-term volatility without yet changing the medium-term trend.

Weather in key EU rapeseed regions is mixed. After earlier heat episodes, current forecasts suggest more moderate temperatures with scattered showers in parts of Western and Central Europe, helping to stabilise yield expectations. However, any renewed heatwave or prolonged dryness in late July–August would quickly revive concerns over oil content and seed size, reinforcing the existing high-range price structure rather than allowing a significant correction.

Trading Outlook (next 2–4 weeks)

  • Producers (EU & Ukraine): Use current high-range futures (EUR 540–550/t Aug/Nov MATIF) to hedge 15–25% of unsold 2026 crop. Consider selling additional physical volumes on any weather- or logistics-driven spikes above roughly EUR 560/t.
  • Consumers / Crushers: Maintain minimum coverage for Q4 2026 and Q1 2027, adding on dips towards EUR 520–530/t MATIF Nov/Feb where basis allows. Avoid heavy de-coverage while Black Sea export risks remain elevated.
  • Traders: Focus on range strategies: buy near the lower end of the current band and sell into rallies, with tight stop-losses given headline sensitivity around Black Sea logistics and EU weather.

3‑day Price Indication

  • MATIF Aug & Nov 2026: Bias sideways to slightly firmer within roughly EUR 540–555/t, with intraday swings on Black Sea and weather news.
  • Ukraine FCA/CPT: Mild downside risk in local bids if export loading remains constrained, though EUR-based export parity should limit sharp falls.
  • French FOB Paris: Expected broadly stable, tracking MATIF with a firm premium as EU crushers compete for available seed.
