Small cardamom arrivals continue to remain at a high level. The market is being affected as sales remain weak compared to arrivals. This is the reason why the average auction price is also slippery.

Sea storm hit the coastal areas

Sea storm one again hit the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, but there are no reports of any severe damage to the cardamom crops. The central-producing states like Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu also experienced ample rainfall in the monsoon season, and there are no reports of crop degradation.

Earlier, due to this rain, people anticipated a loss of 10-15%, but now they seem to be just speculations as the crops turned out to be in good shape and form. On the other hand, the average auction price was reported to have declined as the buying remained weak despite arrivals.

Future Scenario

Small cardamom in the spot will likely remain sluggish in the coming days. The off-take of small cardamom seems to be cooling down at the increased price due to low buying support. Even the export demand does not surface currently, but it may arrive in January due to Ramzan, but now, small cardamom remains frozen at the predetermined level. This may affect market sentiment as small cardamom in the spot is not expected to rise in the coming one or two days.

The Cardamom green 8 mm prices were recorded at $17,26 per kg FOB.
