Overview

There has been a steady and rising demand for green cardamom among the spot markets. In addition, an increase in domestic and international demand for spice can be seen.

Current Scenario

  • Exporters are showing interest in procuring the goods at the current price.
  • The demand for the commodity has increased the price by $1,33 per kg in the last few days. As per market experts, the price for green cardamom can increase by $2,67 to $4,00 per kg if the current trend in demand continues.
  • The current trend forecasts a good supply of quality cardamom in the spot markets, which has interested the spice exporters.
  • Domestic demand can be witnessed even for the medium and lower quality cardamom.
  • According to the market experts, the constant increase in the production of green cardamom during the last two years resulted in capping the price till December. However, despite the arrival of new pods, the carry-over stock checked the market price for the commodity till last year.
  • The 8 mm variety, sold at $24,00 per kg in June, decreased to $18,00 per kg last year. As a result, the price decrease for the spice was recorded to be about 30 per cent.

Prediction

  • The increase in production continues, and it is expected to reach 15,000 metric tons from 11 thousand metric tons.
  • Since the price went down earlier, the export demand for the commodity has increased. Domestic demand due to the wedding season in India has increased.
  • The stockists have also become active in the market now. Also, the current price trend is helping the export of the crop. It now is expected to increase the export of green cardamom by 40 to 50 per cent.
