Ukraine Rapeseed Prices Find a Floor as Supply Thins

Ukraine rapeseed prices stabilise after recent decline, supported by firm crusher demand, tightening farmer selling and exporter interest. Short-term upside bias.

Ukraine's domestic rapeseed market has stopped falling and is stabilising at recently tested lows, with isolated signs of a mild price rebound as on-farm supplies tighten and exporters turn more active.

After several weeks of pressure during peak harvest, rapeseed values in Ukraine have now found a floor as farmer selling slows sharply and crushers defend margins amid weak sunflower processing economics. Prices at processing plants have adjusted only slightly through the week and are now largely steady around 20,000–22,000 UAH/t CPT plant, while exporters show growing willingness to lift bids to secure volumes. With roughly 90% of the rapeseed area already harvested and many liquidity-driven growers having sold, the balance of power is gradually shifting from buyers back towards sellers, pointing to a firmer tone into late August.

Prices

Domestic rapeseed prices in Ukraine have stabilised, effectively ending the previous downtrend. Processing plants are largely quoting within 20,000–22,000 UAH/t on a CPT plant basis, with only marginal week-on-week adjustments reported.

Recent FCA offers indicate flat to slightly lower levels over the past fortnight around EUR 450–460/t in key hubs such as Odesa and Kyiv, signalling that most of the downward correction is already priced in. Export-oriented buyers are increasingly prepared to raise bids from these levels as available unsold volume in farmers' hands diminishes.

Supply & Demand

The Ukrainian rapeseed harvest is close to completion, with about 90% of planted area already cut. This means the bulk of harvest pressure is behind the market, reducing the likelihood of renewed heavy spot selling from the field.

Farmers with limited storage or urgent cash needs have largely sold their seed, leaving a higher proportion now held by better-capitalised producers able to wait for improved prices. On the demand side, crushing plants maintain stable interest in rapeseed as a feedstock, especially given the relatively low attractiveness of sunflower processing at present, which supports baseline demand.

Exporters are also ready to step up price ideas to secure volumes for forward shipments, reflecting tightening spot availability. This combination of slowing farmer sales, steady crush demand and more aggressive export bids is gradually tightening the domestic balance and underpinning the observed price floor.

Fundamentals & Weather

Fundamentals have turned more supportive after a period of surplus offers during the peak cutting window. With most harvest activity already completed, logistical flows are normalising and quality is largely known, reducing uncertainty for both processors and exporters.

Rapeseed competes with sunflower for crush capacity; currently, lower profitability in sunflower processing channels more interest into rapeseed, adding a structural demand pillar. Weather is now of secondary importance for the rapeseed crop, as yields are mostly fixed, though stable conditions remain important for efficient logistics and export loadings.

Outlook & Trading Ideas

Near-term market direction in Ukraine is mildly skewed to the upside as the selling wave fades and demand remains steady. Any further tightening in farmer offers or incremental strength in export parity could lift domestic bids above the current 20,000–22,000 UAH/t band.

  • Farmers: With harvest largely complete and prices off their lows, holding unsold rapeseed looks justified if storage and cash-flow allow, targeting modest price improvement as exporters compete for volumes.
  • Crushers: Consider locking in nearby needs while the market is still close to its recent floor, but avoid over-coverage in case export demand softens later in the season.
  • Exporters: Tighten basis and raise bids selectively in deficit regions to secure quality parcels, as farmer selling is likely to remain disciplined after the first marketing wave.

3‑Day Price Indication (Direction)

  • Ukraine, CPT plants (20,000–22,000 UAH/t): sideways to slightly firmer as farmer selling eases.
  • Ukraine, FCA Odesa & Kyiv (≈ EUR 450–460/t): stable with an upward bias if exporters increase interest.
  • EU benchmarks (e.g. FOB France ≈ EUR 670/t): broadly stable, providing a firm reference floor for Black Sea values.
