Ukraine’s record rapeseed processing and oil exports in 2025/26 tighten regional balances, stabilize EU prices and create opportunities in oil and meal trade.

Ukraine’s record rapeseed processing and exports in 2025/26 are tightening regional oil and meal balances and underpinning a firm, but not explosive, price environment in Europe. Competitive Ukrainian seed offers are slightly easing raw-seed values, while strong international demand for rapeseed oil keeps crush margins attractive and supports continued high utilization of Ukrainian plants. The rapeseed market is entering the new season with Ukraine emerging as a structurally larger supplier of rapeseed oil and meal, not just raw seed. With more than 40% of the domestic crop now processed locally, export flows are shifting from seed toward value-added products. This is improving Ukraine’s capture of the oil and feed value chain and gradually reshaping trade routes for European buyers. Prices in France remain stable at a premium to Ukrainian origins, while Ukrainian domestic seed values have softened slightly in July, reflecting both strong crush demand and still-ample farm selling.

Prices

French FOB Paris rapeseed is quoted around EUR 0.68/kg, unchanged since early July, indicating a broadly stable Western European flat-price environment. Ukrainian rapeseed ex-Kyiv and ex-Odesa (42% min oil, 98% purity) has eased from roughly EUR 0.52/kg at the start of the month to about EUR 0.48/kg by 23–24 July, while CPT Odesa grade-1 seed slipped from about EUR 0.50/kg to just under EUR 0.50/kg over the same period.

This leaves Ukrainian physical seed at a clear discount to French values, reflecting higher logistical and risk premia, but also the rapid build-out of domestic crushing capacity. The modest July downside in Ukrainian prices suggests that, despite record processing and strong oil exports, nearby seed supply remains sufficient and competition between crushers and exporters is contained.

Supply & Demand

Ukraine processed over 1.3 million tons of rapeseed in 2025/26, around 42% of its crop, marking a historic high in commercial crushing. This shift is structurally tightening exportable raw-seed availability and increasingly channeling the crop into domestic value-added production. The resulting increase in rapeseed oil and meal exports strengthens Ukraine’s role in the global vegetable-oil and animal-feed markets.

Rapeseed oil exports reached roughly 520,000 tons in 2025/26, 2.5 times the prior season, with export revenue jumping from about USD 194 million to USD 588 million. Export momentum was particularly strong in the first half of 2026, when oil shipments reached about 184,200 tons versus only 19,500 tons a year earlier, a nearly tenfold volume increase. Rapeseed meal output and exports have also expanded, giving international compound feed producers an alternative to traditional EU and Canadian supplies.

Fundamentals

Ukrainian rapeseed oil production climbed to about 380,470 tons in 2025, more than double pre-war levels and over six times 2022 output. This reflects both legislative support around the 2025 rapeseed harvest and the reconnection of plants to export corridors. Output has consistently outpaced previous years, surpassing 2023 production by roughly 27% and more than doubling 2024 volumes, underscoring sustained investment in the crush sector.

For crushers, strong export demand for oil and meal has widened processing margins, even as raw-seed prices in Ukraine have softened modestly in July. The discount of Ukrainian seed relative to French FOB values supports continued high Ukrainian utilization rates and encourages forward sales of oil and meal into Europe, the Middle East and Asia. For EU crushers, this intensifying competition in the oil and meal segments may limit upside for domestic crush margins unless seed prices adjust further.

Weather & Crop Conditions

Weather in key European rapeseed regions currently appears neutral to slightly supportive for yield potential, with no acute, market-changing stress reported in the past few days in the main producing belts of France and Eastern Europe. Near-term market focus remains less on weather surprises and more on logistics, policy, and crush behavior, given ample evidence of strong processing demand.

In Ukraine, earlier legislative changes affecting the 2025 harvest incentivized rapid delivery and processing from September onward, and there is currently no major weather-related threat flagged for the latest harvested volumes. As a result, availability of seed for crushers is adequate, and the primary risk factor in the short term remains geopolitical and corridor-related rather than agronomic.

3–6 Month Outlook & Trading Strategy

With Ukraine now firmly positioned as a major rapeseed oil and meal exporter, the forward balance is shifting from raw-seed tightness toward more ample availability of processed products. As long as export channels remain open, this should cap extreme rallies in European rapeseed prices, even if occasional logistics or geopolitical disruptions trigger short-lived spikes. Stable French prices and only modest pressure on Ukrainian values point to a broadly range-bound market in the near term.

  • Crushers (EU): Consider locking in a portion of Q4–Q1 seed needs on dips, especially against Ukrainian-origin discounts, while selling rapeseed oil forward to secure current positive margins.
  • Feed buyers: Explore Ukrainian rapeseed meal as a competitively priced alternative in feed rations, particularly for late 2026 deliveries, but manage logistics and political risk through diversified origin portfolios.
  • Producers (Ukraine): Given strong crush demand, staged sales into domestic processors may outperform outright seed exports, particularly if oil and meal markets remain firm.

Short-Term Price Indication (3 Days)

  • France, FOB Paris rapeseed: Stable to slightly softer; sideways range expected around current levels in EUR/kg.
  • Ukraine, CPT Odesa (grade 1): Mild downward bias as harvest pressure meets strong but disciplined crusher buying.
  • Ukraine, FCA Kyiv/Odesa (42% oil): Consolidation likely near recent lows; further downside limited unless export logistics improve markedly.
