Belgian Farmers Block Traffic With More Than 2 Thousand Tractors

Spread the news!

Protesting the law on nitrogen emissions on the agenda of the Flemish Regional Government of Belgium, farmers blocked traffic in the capital Brussels with more than 2 thousand tractors.

In the capital Brussels, farmers protesting against the law on nitrogen emissions took to the streets with their tractors and organized a demonstration.

The farmers, who also protested against Flemish Minister of Environment Zuhal Demir, carried a banner reading “Demir equals Genocide”.

While more than two thousand tractors took to the streets in the capital, police called on the public to use public transportation. However, this call did not prevent traffic gridlock in the capital.

It was stated that the Flemish Government will reconsider the legal regulation opposed by the protesters who argued that the regulation would leave many farmers unemployed.

While many countries in the EU are looking for ways to reduce agricultural pollution, attempts to regulate are met with the reaction of farmers.

The issue, which pits environmentalists and the agricultural lobby against each other, is also one of the focal points of the elections to be held in the Netherlands in two weeks.
