Indian Cumin Prices Edge Higher as Jeera Futures Firm into Sowing Window
Indian cumin prices edge higher with firm NCDEX jeera futures, strong Unjha spot and stable Gujarat weather, pointing to a mildly bullish short-term outlook.
Prices
Indian cumin quotations in New Delhi and Unjha have ticked higher compared with late September. Jeera futures on NCDEX show a firm tone: the benchmark JEERAUNJHA November 2026 contract recently settled around INR 23,295/quintal, up about 1.3% versus the previous session, with spot Unjha jeera indicated near INR 22,395/quintal.
APMC Unjha physical cumin prices on 3 October 2026 were reported in a wide range of INR 3,351–4,890/quintal, confirming a strong domestic cash market as arrivals remain moderate. Indian FOB export offers from New Delhi and Gujarat are moving in line with these mandi and futures benchmarks, and the overall curve appears mildly upward sloping into Q4.

Supply & Demand
India remains the dominant global supplier of cumin, and October marks the start of sowing in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Earlier market analysis indicated that high price volatility and lower export realisations had already reduced export volumes in Q1 of the current fiscal year, leading to comfortable domestic stocks.
Despite this, current firm prices suggest that nearby availability in key mandis like Unjha is not excessive and that domestic consumption plus selective export buying are absorbing arrivals. Futures open interest and recent gains in November jeera contracts point to renewed hedging and some speculative long positioning ahead of the new-crop cycle.

Weather & Crop Outlook (India – Key Cumin Belt)
The cumin belt in Gujarat (including Saurashtra, Kutch and north Gujarat) is moving from monsoon withdrawal into the rabi sowing window. The latest India Meteorological Department subdivision warnings for Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch issued on 4 October 2026 show no severe weather alerts for the coming days, implying limited near-term risk from heavy rainfall or extreme events.
This relatively stable forecast is positive for land preparation and timely sowing from late October onwards. With cumin sensitive to excess moisture and frost, the current outlook of easing monsoon conditions without significant disturbances supports expectations of normal sowing progress, unless late-season rains materialise unexpectedly later in October.
Fundamentals & Trade Flows
On the exchange side, JEERAUNJHA contracts have been among the more active agri futures on NCDEX in early October, with the November 2026 contract trading around INR 23,000/quintal and daily ranges staying firm. This indicates continued use of the contract by both hedgers and speculators, reinforcing current bullish undertones.
Global trade data for cumin show steady growth in shipments over the past year, with India as the key origin and exports focused on a relatively small set of high-volume destination markets. While recent months saw some slowdown in Indian cumin exports due to high prices and competition, the present firmness in domestic and futures prices suggests that export demand, especially from the Middle East and Europe, remains resilient enough to keep the domestic balance sheet tight.
Trading Outlook & 3‑Day Price Indication
Trading outlook (next 1–2 weeks)
- Bias: Mildly bullish for Indian cumin (jeera) given firm NCDEX futures, strong Unjha spot and stable weather into the sowing window.
- Exporters: Consider covering near-term commitments promptly; upside risk remains if sowing progress is slow or if late-season rains disrupt field preparation.
- Importers/End-users: Stagger purchases but avoid being under-covered; any short-term dips driven by profit-taking in futures are likely to be shallow while fundamental tightness persists.
- Producers: Use current strong prices on NCDEX to lock in margins on a portion of expected new-crop output via hedging, especially if input costs have risen.
3‑day regional directional view (India, region IN)
- Unjha (Gujarat) physical jeera: Sideways to slightly firm. Strong mandi prices and no weather shocks are likely to keep cash levels supported in the very short term.
- NCDEX JEERAUNJHA futures: Consolidation with an upward bias around recent ranges, as participants monitor early sowing signals and festival demand.
- New Delhi FOB export market: Stable to marginally firmer, tracking Gujarat physical and NCDEX; no clear catalyst for immediate downside over the next three days.
