Jeera Rally Accelerates: NCDEX Futures Pull Global Cumin Prices Higher
Jeera futures extend their rally on NCDEX, lifting Indian and global cumin prices. Intraday trends, supply signals, weather risks and a short-term trading outlook.
Prices
NCDEX jeera futures (Oct 2026) are trading intraday around ₹24,800–25,130/quintal on October 8, having already tested highs near ₹25,050–25,450 depending on the contract. This represents another daily gain of roughly 1–1.4% after strong rises on the previous sessions. From October 5 to 8, front-month prices climbed from about ₹23,565–23,970 to ₹24,805–25,130/quintal, confirming a clear, persistent upward move rather than intra-day noise.
Export and physical quotations in EUR are tracking this rally. In Surat, EXW prices for Indian cumin seeds have risen between late September and early October: "Cumin seeds Singapore 99%" stands at EUR 2.26/kg, "cummin (jeera) 98%" at EUR 2.228/kg, and "cumin EU 99%" at EUR 2.38/kg as of October 5, all higher than on September 26. Premium 99.5% seeds in Surat have moved to EUR 3.331/kg EXW. In New Delhi, FOB cumin seed prices have also edged up to EUR 2.08/kg for 99% purity and EUR 1.99/kg for 98% grade by October 3.

Supply & Demand Drivers
On the supply side, the current move is driven less by new crop fundamentals and more by the near-term availability of bold, export-quality seeds. Indian trade sources highlight emerging tightness in premium bold seed, which is pushing buyers to pay up on the futures side and in spot markets. Farmers and stockists appear willing to hold inventories while prices trend higher, amplifying the move.
Demand remains seasonally firm. Domestic Indian consumption is supported by festival-season buying, while export demand continues to draw from India as the core global supplier. The recent rally has not yet reached the previous 52-week high, but the clear uptrend and strong daily closes signal renewed confidence among trade and speculative participants that near-term prices can sustain at elevated levels.

Fundamentals & Weather
Fundamentally, India’s dominant role in global cumin production means NCDEX price movements rapidly transmit into export offers. The cumulative rise of more than 5% in four sessions since October 5 is significant given earlier expectations for relatively comfortable 2026 availability. Nearby NCDEX contracts now trade with a visible weather and availability premium, particularly for bold seeds that are in shorter supply than average.
Weather risk is gaining importance as sowing season approaches in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Meteorological updates point to a "second summer" pattern with above-normal maximum temperatures and drier-than-normal conditions across much of Gujarat and Rajasthan during early to mid-October. While sowing typically begins from late October onwards, persistent heat and moisture deficits could delay or complicate field preparation, justifying a modest risk premium in current pricing.
Short-Term Outlook & Trading Ideas
Over the next few sessions, the market appears biased to the upside but increasingly overbought on a short-term basis. The strong sequence of higher closes and fresh highs in the ₹24,800–25,450/quintal band suggests that dips are likely to attract buying as long as weather worries and bold-seed tightness persist. However, intraday volatility and sharp corrections cannot be ruled out after such a fast run-up.
- Importers and food manufacturers: Consider covering at least a portion of Q4–Q1 requirements now, focusing on standard 98–99% grades where EUR prices have risen but remain below premium 99.5% levels. Stagger additional coverage to take advantage of any technical pullbacks.
- Exporters and Indian stockists: The current NCDEX rally supports holding limited inventories, but it may be prudent to scale into sales on further strength above the recent highs, especially for bold grades, to lock in margins while liquidity is high.
- Speculative participants: Trend-following long positions can be maintained with tight stop-losses below recent breakout levels, as rising temperatures and early-sowing uncertainty keep the risk skewed modestly upward.
3-Day Price Indication
- NCDEX Jeera Futures (India): Bias remains moderately bullish with potential tests and brief overshoots of the recent ₹25,050–25,450/quintal highs, but with scope for intraday corrections after the steep four-day climb.
- Indian Export Market (Surat/New Delhi, EUR): EXW and FOB cumin seed offers are likely to stay firm to slightly higher in the coming three days, closely tracking NCDEX moves, especially for bold and 99% purity grades.
- Alternative origins (Egypt, Syria): EUR-denominated offers are comparatively stable; the main directional driver for the global cumin complex over the next three days remains India’s NCDEX and local weather signals.
