Ukrainian Rapeseed Gains Ground as EU Futures Ease from Highs
Ukrainian rapeseed prices hold firm on strong export demand, wide discount to Euronext and favourable weather in Odesa and Kyiv. Short-term outlook slightly bullish.
Prices
Latest indicative spot values (converted to EUR) show Ukrainian rapeseed around 470–480 EUR/t CPT/FCA domestic, versus roughly 552–558 EUR/t on Euronext for November 2026 delivery. This implies a sizeable export parity margin that continues to underpin demand for Ukrainian origin.
Over the past week, Euronext rapeseed futures have eased from above 558 EUR/t to around 551–553 EUR/t on profit‑taking, while remaining historically strong. In Ukraine, reported export bid prices delivered to Danube ports and western borders have recently been in a range of roughly 480–510 USD/t (about 440–470 EUR/t), signalling robust external demand and supporting internal price floors.
Supply & Demand
August exports of Ukrainian rapeseed and rapeseed oil were strong, confirming persistent international demand at the start of the new marketing year. Exporters report active buying interest from EU crushers, where rapeseed balances are tight after a trimmed EU production estimate and firm global oilseed prices.
Medium‑term balances for Ukraine remain comfortable but not burdensome: recent analysis points to a slightly larger 2026/27 crop and higher crushing, but export volumes are also projected to edge higher, leaving only modest stock growth. This combination supports a floor under Ukrainian prices while still requiring competitive offers to move the crop through constrained logistics channels.
Fundamentals & External Drivers
EU futures remain the primary benchmark for Ukrainian rapeseed. Despite a recent setback, Paris contracts are still well supported by a reduced EU crop estimate and firm global vegetable oil markets. High Canadian canola prices further enhance the relative attractiveness of Ukrainian origin into Europe.
On the logistics side, Ukraine continues to face risks from attacks and disruptions in the Black Sea region, prompting government measures to support exporters and adjust rules for export contract payments across key agricultural commodities. While rapeseed is not the primary focus of these regulatory changes, the broader environment keeps a risk premium in Black Sea oilseed flows and encourages diversification via Danube and overland EU routes.
Weather & Logistics Outlook (UA)
Weather in Odesa over the next three days is forecast to be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, with daytime highs around 22–23°C and no major precipitation, supporting smooth loading operations at ports and inland terminals. Kyiv is also expected to see dry, pleasant conditions with temperatures rising to 23–25°C towards the end of the period.
These benign conditions reduce short‑term logistics risks for rapeseed movements inside Ukraine, particularly for truck and rail flows towards export corridors. Any unexpected escalation of security risks rather than weather remains the main potential disruptor for near‑term physical availability.
Short-Term Trading Outlook
- Farmers (UA): With domestic prices near recent highs and a firm EU futures backdrop, consider incremental sales on rallies while keeping some exposure to possible further strength if logistics risks tighten supply.
- Exporters: The current discount of Ukrainian rapeseed to Euronext still offers competitive room; securing nearby volumes before further farmer price expectations rise may be prudent.
- EU crushers: Ukrainian origin remains attractive versus Canadian canola; consider locking in basis on dips in Paris futures to secure Q4–Q1 coverage.
3-Day Directional Price Indication (EUR)
- UA Odesa CPT rapeseed: Slightly firmer bias (≈+2–3 EUR/t potential) on strong export demand and favourable logistics.
- UA FCA rapeseed (Odesa, Kyiv): Mostly sideways to mildly higher, tracking export bids and crush margins.
- EU Euronext Nov-26 rapeseed: Range-bound trade around 550–560 EUR/t, with modest downside risk if broader oilseeds correct, but solid support from tight EU balances.
