So far, about 10,000 tons of early-ripening dates have been harvested from the palm groves in the southern regions of this province.

According to FAO statistics (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), Iran is the third largest producer of dates worldwide. The area under cultivation of dates is about 260,000 hectares, of which 223,000 hectares are fertile and about 37,000 hectares are infertile. So far, about 10,000 tons of early-ripening dates have been harvested from the palm groves in the southern regions of this province. has a great ability to produce tropical and subtropical products, including dates, due to its proximity to the equator and sea humidity.

The date harvest has started with the early-ripening types such as Katomi, Negal, and Ashobeh and ends with the late-ripening types such as Michaeli and Halileh in November. According to the Agricultural Organization of Sistan va Baluchestan province, about 10,000 tons of early-ripening dates have been harvested from the palm groves in the southern regions of this province. Most palm groves of the province are Mazafati dates with an area of ​​28,400 hectares and Rabbi dates with an area of ​​22,500 hectares. 41 percent of the province’s horticultural crops are allocated to date cultivation. So far, 23,000 tons of dates have been harvested. It is expected that the production of dates in this province will reach 230,000 tons this year. Date cultivation has employed 40,000 people in the province.

Out of 62,914 hectares of palm groves in the province, 49,718 hectares are fertile. Annually, more than 250,898 tons of dates are produced and sold in this province. The dates of Sistan va Baluchestan are exported to the Persian Gulf states, Europe, and Russia in addition to other provinces. Most palm groves of the province are in Saravan, Iranshahr, and Nikshahr cities.

Over the past year, the capacity of date packaging, storage, and processing industries has increased by 10,000 tons in the province. Currently, 41 cold storage units with a capacity of 79,600 tons, 27 packaging units with a capacity of 49,850 tons, and 5 processing units with a capacity of 15,280 tons are working to provide services to date growers in Sistan va Baluchestan. The total capacity of date-related industries is 144,700 in the province. Seven units of date processing industries with a capacity of 7,500 tons are being built in the province with the progress of over 50 percent.

The price of Iranian dates for export has dropped in the world markets compared to last month due to the decrease in domestic and export demand for Iranian exported dates caused by approaching the date harvesting season, despite the reduction in the foreign exchange rate against the Rial. Compared to last month, the price of Rabbi dates for export has fallen by 11 percent, the cost of Mazafati dates has declined by 8 percent, and the price of Zahedi and Kabkab dates has dropped by 6 percent.
