Dates: Tangestan Ranks First in the Production of High-Quality Kabkab Dates in Iran

15 percent of Bushehr’s dates are exported to different countries. Tangestan city ranks second in dates production in Bushehr province. Tangestan ranks first in producing high-quality Kabkab dates in Iran, which are exported to Ukraine, Russia, Iraq, and Arabic states.

Bushehr province has significant advantages in the agricultural sector, one of which produces different types of dates. 165,000 tons of dates are produced in this province. Out of the total amount, 15 percent is exported to various countries, which is 27,000 tons. Bushehr Port is the second-largest container port in Iran. The capacity for unloading and loading goods is 9,000,000 tons per year in the port of Bushehr.

165,000 tons of Bushehr’s dates are produced from 6,000,000 palm trees. Of this amount, 8,000 tons of dried unripe dates and 30,000 tons of fresh dates are produced. The rest crops are dates. Most of the dates produced in Bushehr province are Zahedi and Kabkab. The packaging and processing capacity is for 100,000 tons of dates in the province. Most of the province’s dates are produced in Dashtestan city. Dashtestan city is the center of date production in Bushehr province, having 4,500,000 palm trees and annual production of 127,000 tons of dates.

Tangestan city ranks second in the production of dates in Bushehr province, after Dashtestan. There are now 2,500 hectares of palm trees in Tangestan city. Over 13,000 tons of dates are produced in this county, annually. It seems that more practical actions need to be taken for achieving more scientific methods of Dates producing. In addition, in order to reach a high export statistic, related organizations should have more focus on this area.

Last year, this city ranked second in terms of area under cultivation and dates production in the province, with an annual production of 30,000 tons of dates and fresh dates. There are now three active packaging and processing units in the city.

To have high-quality dates with long-term durability in Tangestan, government support is needed to develop packaging units to compete in foreign markets. Tangestan ranks first in producing high-quality Kabkab dates, having 3,800 hectares of the area under cultivation of palm trees. They are exported to Ukraine, Russia, Iraq, and Arabic Governments.

Over the past month, the price of Iranian dates has been stable in the domestic market of Iran. However, it has dropped in the world markets because of the changes in the foreign exchange rate against the rials. Over the past month, disputes between Iran and the United States have increased over Iran’s nuclear activities and the revival of the JCPOA agreement. The foreign exchange rates have increased in the Iranian market, and the price of Iranian dates has declined in the world markets due to an increase in tensions between Iran, European Union Member States, and the United States, which was because of the statements of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency against Iran, and reducing Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA, as well as disconnecting many of the IAEA’s surveillance cameras.
