According to the information compiled from Malatya Commodity Exchange data, exports increased in the first five months of the new export season, which started on 1 August 2021. In the period covering August, September, October, November, and December of 2021, the revenue of approx 197 million dollars was obtained in return for 46.394 mt of dried apricot exports.
In the new export season, the most exports were made to the USA with 5.940 mt and approx 28 million, followed by France with 3.871 mt and 18.5 million dollars, Germany with 3.213 mt and 16.2 million dollars, followed by Brazil with 1.978 mt and 9.1 million dollars and Australia with 2.034 mt and 9.1 million dollars.
Malatya Commodity Exchange President Ramazan Özcan said, “We set out with the target of 100 thousand tons of exports and 500 million dollars of income. We continue on our way towards this goal with confident steps. We have achieved the target of 196 million dollars in 5 months. Hopefully, we will continue to move towards this goal with confident steps in the next six months. We will continue,” he said.
Özcan continued: “Despite the heavy damage and injury caused by COVID-19, especially in the food sector, Malatya apricots both preserved the amount and increased their export revenues. The USA is still one of our most important buyers. We export an average of 15 thousand tons of dried apricots annually. Europe is still a valuable market for us. Germany, France, Italy are among our most important buyers. Still, China was a valuable market for us because China is the most important country to which we exported natural apricots. There was a partial decline in our exports to China due to COVID-19, but we achieved this again in 2021. In 5 months, we exported close to 2. 500 mt. We plan to close the export to China with 5.000 mt in the season.”
Market players stated that due to the good progress of exports and demands, the increases in raw material prices continued and exceeded the level of 90 TL/kg. They do not expect it to hold on at a certain level currently.
Turkey exported 47.618 mt so far, being 44.569 mt last year during the same period. Last week’s exports were 1221 mt apricots being 1111 mt during the same week of last year.
