Ukraine Has Determined the Maximum Volume of Sugar Exports

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding. According to the document, both parties will cooperate to maintain stable food security and avoid export restrictions.

According to the document, the parties agreed

  • The maximum possible volume of sugar exports should be based on the preliminary balance of demand and supply in season 2023/2024. Possible changes to the Memorandum should be taking into account spring sowing and plant vegetation;
  • The maximum volume of sugar exports in season 2023/2024 will be up to 650,000 tons.

Within the limits of the legislation, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy can initiate measures of state regulation in case of threats to the food security of the state.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and sugar producers will discuss the current situation and determine export volumes every month. In case the Ministry initiates measures to change the regimes of foreign economic activity, the introduction of licensing and quotas, the parties will conduct preliminary consultations.

The memorandum enters into force from the date of signing and is valid until September 1, 2024.
