🚨 Salmonella Recall: Pit & Pit Withdraws Organic Snack Products

CMB News | Food Safety | February 2026

Belgian online retailer Pit & Pit has initiated a precautionary recall of two organic products in coordination with Belgium’s food safety authority (FAVV). The recall follows the suspected detection of Salmonella bacteria. Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the affected products.

🔄 Return & Refund Procedure

Customers who have purchased the affected products should not consume them and instead return them to the retailer.

  • A free return label can be requested via email at help@pit-pit.com.

  • Customers are asked to attach a photo of the product label.

  • A full refund will be issued once the returned goods are received.

⚠️ Health Risk: Salmonella Infection

Salmonella can cause acute gastrointestinal illness. Common symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Fever

Symptoms typically develop within 6 to 48 hours after consumption.

Higher-risk groups include:

  • Young children

  • Elderly individuals

  • Immunocompromised persons

In severe cases, complications may occur. Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the affected products should seek medical attention immediately.

🧭 Market Context

Microbiological contamination remains one of the most frequent causes of food recalls. Sprouted seeds and nut-based snacks carry elevated food safety risks because they are often consumed without further heat treatment.

For Pit & Pit, the recall represents not only a financial burden but also a reputational challenge, particularly within the organic food segment, where consumers expect high safety and quality standards.

CMB Conclusion:
Consumers should strictly avoid consumption of the listed products and follow the return instructions. The case underscores the critical importance of rigorous microbiological controls throughout the food supply chain.
