Gujarat
There is a 50 percent reduction in peanut production in Gujarat.
- Sowing decreased by 60 to 70% in Bhavnagar Amreli, the central area producing summer groundnut in Saurashtra.
- Excess groundnut stock is not likely to accelerate. Similarly, the recession is unlikely to be due to summer production being 50
In Gujarat, the production of summer groundnut was 150 to 175 thousand tonnes last year. This year the production is expected to be between 90 thousand and 100 thousand tonnes.
Saurashtra had a large share in the production of summer groundnut in Gujarat.
But the region has been replaced by the increase in groundnut sowing in Banaskantha and Sabarkantha. As a result, these two districts account for 60 percent of the summer groundnut, while Saurashtra, South Gujarat, and Kutch cover the remaining 40%.
In Saurashtra, Bhavnagar district, which has the highest groundnut sowing, has sown only 25 to 30% in the current year and only 15 to 20% in Amreli. In Bhavnagar, the sowing of summer groundnut has reduced significantly due to less water in Khodiyar Dam and Shatrujay Dam. In Junagadh, Porbandar, Dwarka, Jamnagar, and Somnath districts, sowing of summer groundnut has been done only 50% compared to last year. After the groundnut sowing, there is a possibility of reducing the yield by 5 to 10% due to the higher amount of heat in the current year.
Factors That Led To Reduced Sowing
The high seed price of groundnut and other summer crops led to a lowering in the sowing. Mainly due to the high price received for sesame, moong-urad, guar, and soybean, the sowing area of groundnut has decreased due to more attraction among farmers for other crops.
In Gujarat, 20 to 25% of Kharif groundnut production’s crop is still in stock. Similarly, the government has an inventory of 80 to 85 thousand tonnes of the current season and 10 to 15 thousand tonnes of old groundnut.
The production of summer groundnut is about 10 -15 percent Java and 80 to 85 percent TJ.
Future
In Gujarat, the old groundnut stock is not likely to pick up because of the massive leftovers. Also, there is no possibility of recession due to the summer groundnut crop being estimated at 50%.
Due to a 50% reduction in summer groundnut production, after increasing new arrivals, only 50% of groundnut units will be able to process in Gujarat.

Uttar Pradesh
Groundnut production in Uttar Pradesh increased by 25 percent, estimated to be more than 600 thousand tonnes.
Groundnut sown in Uttar Pradesh has increased by 30 to 40 percent compared to last year, but the overall production has been reduced by 25 percent due to extreme heat.
Traders in local spot markets estimated that Uttar Pradesh had produced 450 thousand to 500 thousand tonnes of groundnut last year.
In Uttar Pradesh, groundnut is grown in five districts Mainpuri, Etah, Farukhabad, Hardoi, and Saharanpur. Last year, from June 15 to July 15, peak season, the income was made from 250 to 300 thousand bags (25 to 30 kg per bag) daily in the spot markets of Uttar Pradesh.
This year, the pressure of new groundnut income will also be seen after June 15.
Uttar Pradesh has 45 to 50 groundnut units and many small and big crushing mills, out of which two giant crushing mills are very famous, and the purchase of groundnut from these two mills is significant in all seasons. In the summer season, 50 percent of groundnut is made into the grain, and groundnut oil is made of 50 percent groundnut.
In summer, the oil percentage in groundnut grown in Uttar Pradesh is two percent higher than in Kharif. On average, fifty-two percent of oil is found in groundnut in the summer season, while 50 percent of oil is found in groundnut in the Kharif season.
As groundnut production increases daily in Uttar Pradesh, more groundnut is going from here to Saurashtra’s centers, mainly in Godal, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Keshod, and Amreli. Apart from this, groundnut is also going to the states of Punjab, Maharashtra, and South India.
Groundnut prepared in the summer season in Uttar Pradesh is called Hybrid Batali by the local public, but in Gujarat and other states, it is known as TJ groundnut.
Future
Income is expected to remain in full force till July 15. After the start of the income of the summer crop, the price is estimated to be $0,64 – $0,70 per kg. But it can reduce to $0,54 – $0,57 per kg.
