Currently, there’s a steady demand for cumin; thus, the cumin market keeps fluctuating. The reports of cumin sowing will be declared on December 15, and a positive market trend will be seen.
Unfavourable environment
According to the farmers, the environment is very unfavourable in the current year for the sowing of cumin. In Gujarat and Rajasthan, farmers have to sow other crops after sowing cumin. The carry-forward cumin stock is estimated to be 3 to 5 million bags, which will be considered dead stock.
Sowing of cumin is estimated to be as much as last year’s sowing in Gujarat and Savaya in Rajasthan, as per the preliminary reports. According to the farmers, the environment is very unfavourable in the current year for the sowing of cumin.
Future Scenario
Every year in China, the demand for cumin emerges before the Lunar New Year. The festival of Lunar will start in China on February 1. In the current year, Chinese markets will remain closed from January 31 to February 6. Before the Lunar New Year, there was a belief that the demand for China’s cumin would emerge at the end of December or January. The demand for cumin will be seen in Gulf and Muslim countries in January and February as the festival of Ramzan starts on March 23. Its support will also be given to the market.
The cumin seeds grade A prices were recorded at $3,09 per kg FOB.
