Harvesting of soybeans in Brazil is progressing rather slowly this month, as fieldwork is hampered by the weather. According to monitoring conducted by analysts of Safras & Mercado, by February 10, 14.8% of the area from the plan was threshed in the country – about 6.47 million hectares. Over the week, the indicators increased by exactly 7%, but on the same date last year, the cleaning was completed by a quarter.
Main reason: The weather
“The weather was the main reason why the pace of harvesting slowed, especially in the Midwest. Despite the excess moisture last week, at the moment there are no serious concerns about the quality of raw materials, “the report says.
A serious delay in Paraná
By the end of the first decade of February the most soybeans were harvested in the state of Mato Grosso – 5.192 million hectares or 44% of the plan. There is a serious delay in harvesting in Paraná – only 288 thousand hectares (5%) have been harvested, about four times less than at the same date last year. In Mato Grosso do Sul 4% is harvested, which is equivalent to 163 thousand hectares. In Goiás, 14% of a total planted area of 4.46 million hectares was harvested, equivalent to about 624 thousand hectares.
At the moment, Brazil is the largest soybean producer in the world. The tropical climate and the relative availability of space make this region ideal for growing not only soybeans, but also corn – however, these two crops mainly go to foreign markets, covering most of the needs of the entire world market.
