In most areas of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the effect of unseasonal rains on the coriander crop is visible on a large scale. It has been raining with heavy winds for the last four-five days in many areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Severe damage
Due to water falling on the crop lying in the field after harvesting, severe damage is caused. Farmers tried to save the harvested crops, but all their efforts went in vain, as the bottom layer is wasted and the middle layer in a heap has a moisture content, due to which the coriander will become discolored.
Coriander sowing was increased in the current year in Madhya Pradesh, and the yield per acre has risen to 5 kg. Last year it was 3.00 to 3.50 kg.
Shortage expected
Due to the effect of unseasonal rains, there will be a shortage of 10 to 12 million bags in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, which was predicted earlier. According to the new estimate, there will be 65 to 70 lakh sacks of the crop in Madhya Pradesh and 20 to 25 million sacks in Rajasthan. At the same time, the quality of 30 to 35% of the coriander crop that is left will be weak. The amount of blackening of coriander will be huge.
Due to unseasonal rains, the arrival of coriander will be delayed by 10 to 15 days in some areas. Besides this, there will be a massive shortage of the best green quality coriander in the current season, so its price will increase more than expected.
The Coriander seeds prices were Recorded at $0,93 per kg FOB.
