As of March 13, Argentina has begun harvesting its corn crop, with approximately 1.99 million tons already threshed, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. This represents 3% of the planned area, with a yield of 8.71 tons per hectare. However, heavy rains during the week have impacted crop conditions, resulting in a decrease in the proportion of corn crops rated as good or excellent from 29% to 25%.
Meanwhile, in Brazil, soybean harvesting has progressed significantly, covering 63% of the area as of March 14, according to reports from AgRural. Harvesting has commenced in Matopiba and Rio Grande do Sul regions, where earlier unfavorable weather conditions had delayed planting. Despite these challenges, abundant rainfall during late sowings has contributed to high soybean yields in these areas.
Additionally, 97% of the planned area has been sown with second-crop corn in Brazil, with planting already completed in the main producing states. However, concerns arise due to dry weather in Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul states, although Mato Grosso has experienced favorable rains in March.
Looking ahead, forecasts suggest dry weather in Argentina in the coming weeks, while central Brazil is expected to receive rainfall. These weather patterns will influence crop development and corn harvesting, potentially impacting market quotations.
