Drought Spreads in the United States and Brazil

Spread the news!

In the Midwest of the United States, the drought is strengthening, which will sharply worsen the condition of soybeans and corn. The heat of 30-33 °C without precipitation, which began last week, will continue next week, although the temperature will drop to 28-30 °C.

In the arid regions of the Central and Southern plains there were showers and thunderstorms, but next week there is expected to be almost dry weather with above-normal temperatures. In the Northern plains of the United States, heavy rains continue, which improve the conditions for the development of spring wheat.

In the prairies of Canada, the weather with normal temperatures and periodic showers contributes to the sowing and germination of spring crops.

In the south-central regions of Brazil, where they grow corn safrinha, last week there was little rainfall, which reduced the impact of the long May drought. However, in the next 7-10 days, the heat is expected to reach 30-33°C without rain, which will reduce the potential of the second corn harvest.

Rains in Argentina have replenished soil moisture reserves in the regions of winter wheat production, which will contribute to the completion of sowing and germination, although it will delay the harvest. According to the BAGE exchange, soybeans have been harvested in 87% of the area in Argentina, while corn – only 28.6%.

In the Mediterranean, the rains continue, including in Spain, where there is still a severe drought. In most of Europe, the weather is favorable for the development of crops, although, in Germany and France, there is a slight moisture deficit.

Frosts

Over the weekend, a cold front with rains passed through the Black Sea region. In the east and south of Ukraine, the amount of precipitation was higher than in the west. Against the background of decreasing air temperature in the northern and western regions, frosts down to 0 °C were recorded, which could damage corn crops.
