According to APK-Inform reveals a decrease in grain loading on Ukraine’s rail network operated by Ukrzaliznytsia since the beginning of April. This decline, compared to the previous month, underscores shifting trends in grain transportation and export dynamics.
Grain Loading Figures
A total of 1.631 million tonnes of grain have been loaded onto Ukraine’s rail network since the start of April, marking a 7.8% decrease from the same period in March. Currently, grain constitutes 21% of the total load on the rail network, as confirmed by a Ukrzaliznytsia representative. The average daily load for April stood at 105.19 thousand tonnes, with a peak recorded on April 8 at over 121.5 thousand tonnes.
Export Trends
During the same period, approximately 1.55 million tonnes of grain cargoes were exported, with the majority (85%) transported to ports and the remainder (15%) transferred through western border crossings. Compared to March, export transportation witnessed a decrease of over 255 thousand tonnes. Specifically, cargo loading and transportation to the port of Chornomorsk decreased by almost 224 thousand tonnes, while the volume of cargo transferred through western border crossings decreased by about 32 thousand tonnes.
Implications and Outlook
The decline in grain loading on Ukrzaliznytsia’s rail networks reflects evolving patterns in grain export and transportation dynamics. Factors such as market demand, logistical constraints, and seasonal variations may contribute to these fluctuations. As the month progresses, stakeholders will continue to monitor and adapt to changing trends in grain transportation, ensuring the efficient movement of agricultural commodities across domestic and international markets.
