Currently, Romania has become a part of the “grain corridor” and “Solidarity Lanes”, and after Russia renewed the Black Sea blockade, the transit corridor through the Danube ports to Romania became key for Ukrainian agricultural exports. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal emphasized this during the joint meeting of the governments of Ukraine and Romania, which took place on October 18, reports Apkinform according to the communications department of the Secretariat of the CMU.
“Currently, 60% of our export grain transits through Romanian territory. And in terms of the volume of bilateral trade, Romania took third place for Ukraine. And this is far from the limit,” said D. Shmyhal.
He added, that the principles and provisions of the agreement signed in August 2023 between the governments of the two countries on strengthening the cooperation in ensuring reliable transit are being implemented.
“By expanding the transit corridor in the Ukraine-Moldova-Romania triangle, we can double our export opportunities in this direction,” D. Shmyhal said.
The significant progress in the development of border infrastructure is another result of cooperation between Ukraine and Romania. New checkpoints “Dyakivtsi – Rakovets” and “Krasnoilsk – Vikovu de Sous” were opened, with plans to open four more in Bukovina and Transcarpathia.
It is also reported that following the meeting of the governments, a number of important documents were signed. In particular, the Agreement on the construction of a road border crossing over the Tisza River on the Ukrainian-Romanian state border between the settlements of Bila Tserkva (Ukraine) and Sighetu Marmaciei (Romania), as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of the countries regarding the strengthening of cooperation in ensuring the reliable transit of Ukrainian-made products.
