Second Lng Terminal Will Be Launched in Germany

Spread the news!

Deutsche ReGas will officially launch the LNG terminal project in the port of Lubmin on the Baltic Sea on January 14. Thus, next week Germany will receive two operating LNG terminals.

The 4.5 billion cubic meter import project (approximately 3.3 million tons of LNG per year) was supposed to begin commercial operation by the end of last year, but the official launch was delayed due to permit problems.

The local government of Mecklenburg will provide the residual permits needed to start the project. In a press release dated January 5, the local government said that the approval process was nearing completion.

The Deutsche ReGas project has already accepted the first LNG: the 140,500-cubic meter Seapeak Hispania arrived on December 21 with cargo from Egypt’s Idku LNG plant. Seapeak will be used as floating storage (FSU).

LNG will be supplied from a floating storage facility at FSRU Neptune using small gas carriers.

The launch of the terminal in Lubmin means that two LNG terminals with a total capacity of 9.5 billion cubic meters per year should be operational in Germany next Sunday.

Until now, Germany was the only major EU country that did not have the infrastructure on its territory to receive liquefied gas. On December 17, 2022, the first German LNG terminal officially entered service in the port of Wilhelmshafen on the North Sea.
