Shortage Of White Sesame Worldwide

Spread the news!

There is a shortage of sesame seeds on a global scale, and experts predict that the demand will continue to increase. And the two major countries supplying sesame stem its export, and the effects are visible in the sesame market.

Current Scenario

The markets of China were closed for the last 10-12 days, due to which India is the only buyer of sesame seeds in the international market. India is expected to import 15.000 to 18.000 tonnes of sesame in February.

On the other hand, due to the lack of currency, the public is stocking up on buying sesame seeds. No one is selling sesame seeds because of the increasing security problem due to elections in Nigeria in a month. The priorly imported sesame will not be available in the domestic market because most of the sesame has been imported by turmeric factories, and 90 to 95% of the local sesame crop has been destroyed. Thus, a vast supply shortage is visible in the market.

Future Scenario

Despite keeping the upper limit of $2050 per tonne in Korea’s tender, this tender was cancelled due to African countries offering a bid price of $2150 to 2400. No new white sesame crop will come into the world market in India for the next four months. The white sesame crop of the summer season will now arrive in May. Similarly, the new crop from Tanzania and Mozambique will enter the world market in May.

Due to the shortage of white sesame, which will continue for 4 months, if steady domestic demand comes, there is a possibility of an increase in white sesame. Especially as the cold season progresses, if the cold continues till February 15, there will be a definite rise in white sesame, according to market veterans.

The Sesame seeds natural 99.95% sortex  prices were recorded at $ 2,18 per kg FOB.
