Statewide Soybean Sowing Surge
Soybean sowing, a major Kharif oilseed, has increased by approximately 11 percent in Gujarat this season. This information comes from the latest data released by the state agriculture department. The data indicates that soybean has been sown in a total of 292,700 hectares in Gujarat so far this season, compared to 262,900 hectares during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 29,800 hectares or 11.33 percent.
Central Gujarat Leads Sowing Increase
- The most significant increase in soybean sowing has been observed in Central Gujarat, where sowing has surged by about 29 percent.
- Specifically, soybean has been sown in 70,400 hectares this season, compared to 54,600 hectares during the same period last year.
- This marks an increase of 15,800 hectares or 28.93 percent.
Following Central Gujarat, North Gujarat has also seen a notable increase. Soybean has been sown in 59,400 hectares this season, compared to 53,700 hectares last year, indicating an increase of 5,700 hectares or 10.61 percent.
Modest Increases in South Gujarat and Saurashtra
In South Gujarat, soybean sowing has increased slightly. This season, soybean has been sown in 21,500 hectares, up from 21,200 hectares last year, reflecting an increase of 300 hectares or 1.41 percent.
Saurashtra, the largest soybean-producing region in Gujarat, has also seen growth. Soybean sowing in Saurashtra has reached 141,500 hectares this season, compared to 133,400 hectares during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 8,100 hectares or 6.07 percent.
Overall, soybean sowing in Gujarat has increased significantly this season, with the most substantial growth in Central and North Gujarat. These increases reflect the positive trends in soybean cultivation across the state, promising a robust harvest for the current season.
