As we have stated in our previous sultana raisin reports, there was a significant loss of yield due to the mildew disease. The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that the yield, which was 320 thousand tons last season, will be between 190-200 thousand tons this year. However, in our interviews with the actors in the market, it is said that the yield will be 130 thousand tons at most.
Tariş raised its purchase price
Tariş announced the purchase price of number 7 sultana raisins as 45 TL. However, it increased it to 50 TL. In a statement, Tariş said, “The advance purchase price previously announced by our Association for seedless raisins number 7 has been increased to 50 TL / kg gross, taking into account the developing market conditions. May it be beneficial to our partners.”
Last year, on August 20, 2022, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the TMO seedless raisin purchase price as 27 liras per kilo for number 9. Farmers are expecting TMO to announce the purchasing price but this year, they may not announce a price because of low yields and the expectation that prices will rise.
In the Turkish Raisin market, where both quality and production are expected to be low, prices are expected to be high. Prices in the market vary and are still uncertain. Currently, the average FOB price of type 9 raisins is 2.20 Euro/kg.
In a country where the price of everything is skyrocketing due to high inflation, farmers naturally want to sell their crops at higher prices. While farmers are waiting for prices to rise due to uncertainty and product scarcity, those with favorable storage conditions prefer to hold on to their produce. Although this has an effect on the increase in prices, we will see how the demand will be in the face of high prices. If prices remain high, European buyers may turn to alternative countries such as Iran, Uzbekistan and China for raisins.
