The import of sunflower from Ukraine to Bulgaria will be banned until the end of November this year, the country’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Kirill Vatev said during an online meeting with Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solskiy.
According to Vatev, after this deadline there will be a license regime for the export of sunflower, wheat, corn and rapeseed according to the agreed plan between Ukraine and the European Commission.
The Bulgarian minister also said that local market participants are apprehensive about the current imports of refined and unrefined sunflower oil and other products from Ukraine.
“It is very important to discuss all the problems that affect our agricultural producers and together look for ways to solve them,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine decided to develop an internal verification procedure for shipments of rapeseed, sunflower, wheat and corn to five EU border countries.
“This procedure provides for the issuance of a license from the Ukrainian government within 30 days of receiving an export application. The relevant government decree has already been adopted, and therefore exports to the five countries without their approval no longer take place. Within these 30 days, Ukraine informs the European Commission and the respective country about the receipt of the export application,” Mykola Solskyy explained.
