The busy harvest season has started for the apricot producers in Malatya/ Turkey, the picking and drying activities continue at full speed these days. Market players stated that the dried apricots are immediately bought by the traders nowadays, so many different prices circulate in Malay nowadays.

Still, they are generally in the meaning that the prices in the markets do not reflect the truth yet. The officials have announced that the total fresh apricot harvest is expected to be 391.088 mt.

Approximately 46.000 mt is expected to be exported and locally consumed as fresh. The remaining 344.000 mt of the total will be dried, and 86.000 mt of dried apricots obtained is more or less the same as last Season (2020 crop 90.000 mt).  Market players, however, state that this could be still around 95.000 up to 100.000 mt.

As observed, there is an increase in dry fruit consumption during the pandemic; market players are in the meaning that there is no need for hurry to make contracts nowadays.

Another important fact is frost damages in plum plantations worldwide; it is also expected that the demand for dried apricots will increase. Malatya exported 15.000 mt fresh apricots last Season; the target for this year is at least 20.000 mt.
